Here's a preview of the upcoming new standard design for all NWS offices.

At some point my tax dollars will go to a website that the public can use.
28 different colors on the homepage - they won't use. |

It doesn't really jump out to me as an improvement on my initial trial...Then again, I've only given it a test drive for about 30 seconds, so I need to give it some exploring before completely making my mind up.
NWS is looking for user feedback, so let them know any pros/cons that you see in the site

Notice not much mention of local offices or links to them. I guess they are getting ready for a NWS with all managers at headquarters and forecasts from GFS MOS for the whole country.

If you click on a location on the main watch/warning/advisory map, it takes you to the local NWS office of where you're clicking...but it takes you to the current local NWS design. From my understanding, when the upgrade is complete, all local NWS offices are going to have this same exact format. They're just doing the national right now as a trial to get comments on the format/layout. Providing all goes well and the format becomes operational, the local offices will be integrated with the same format.

I don't know, when I first saw the new design I didn't really like it. I've looked around several more times since has sort of grown on me, I think it is at least a better than the current (old) design. It's kind of plain looking, but it is easy to navigate around.
I do think it won't look as good on lower resolution, I know several people who still uses the 800x600 resolution. |

I love the idea of all local NWS offices having the exact same page layouts. There's way too much disparity going from one office's site to another; especially, if the other office is located in a different region. Some offices make it very easy to access all current text products & all expired text products. Meanwhile, some local webpages make accessing all current & recently issued text products next to impossible Especially non-forecast text products which are not issued on a regular/daily basis. Sure there are plenty of other ways to access this information; however, it would be nice if all NWS websites had the same layout where one could look in the same spot on any NWS office's webpage to find what the end user is looking for like Public Information Statements or copies of recent warnings which are expired. Again, I know how get this info elsewhere, but more uniform websites for all local offices would be nice.

I would put the number of non-meteorologists/weather-enthusiasts who bounce between all NWS WFO sites and get frustrated at the lack of a consistent look at about 14.
People, not percent ![]() I can't imagine too many Chillicothe OH residents are visiting the AMA office wondering how to find the seasonal climate summary for fall 2010. The problem with a "standard" is that I worry about offices (DTX) who add a TON of local model data in case that becomes "prohibited." |

Sweet! I've always wanted to be an integral part of something exclusive! I haven't felt this special since I bought my Zune.
I think the Federal Government & tax dollars would be more efficiently allocated if local offices of Federal parts of our government had continuallity with their websites. |
