He looks like he has AIDS or HIV. Or maybe food poisoning?

Anyone have the skinny on the skinny Smith?

I was not the original person who brought that up. Google Shep and those questions are flying on several different blog posts.

Yet you have no issues with speculating about it here.

Whatever is the matter - if anything is the matter - I hope he is doing well.

Funny, if it was Peter Jennings and his lung cancer, the competition would have been all over the speculation. Jennings just beat them to the punch.

I just wanted to know if anyone here knew if he has a chronic illness like AIDS or if the suits at FOX asked him to lose weight. Geeze, circle the wagons, a high profile news anchor looks ill and no one wants to say anything about it.

It's one thing to say he looks a little ill. But making the leap to AIDS is a bit much.

But no, I haven't heard anything.

Or, no one wants to join in on a seemingly clear suggestion he may be a gay, intravenous drug user.

I don't know whether he looks ill because I don't watch the guy (or any of the others, actually.)

But if he is, it's his decision whether to disclose it. He doesn't owe the public anything. He's neither an elected nor appointed government official. All he does is read the news. His health is his own business, snd to a lesser extent, his employer's.

And trolling for rumors is terribly inelegant.

I had not watched Fox News in at least 4 or 5 years, but happened to be flicking through the channels a little after 7pm one day, and my wife and I both together thought the same thing (that something's wrong with that guy). Surely an outfit that pays attention to appearance a good bit has been wondering too, right? He also didn't come off as empassioned yet jovial that I remember, but it's been a while.

My point is the implication of the OP by going to AIDS, as AS has pointed out. It is rude and inconsider and homphobic.

Why nto say liver failure, or lymphoma?

Exactly how is saying that someone looks like they have aids become "homphobic"? Not quite sure I get how that statement proves one is "scared of gay people"?

Maybe not scared---it does appear out of sorts here---but you got what i was saying.

I had a few issues with the post.

1. Shephard Smith is openly gay, so to toss AIDS into the mix implied that since he was gay and because he looked ill that it had to be AIDS. Perhaps I'm overthinking it but there was no need to throw the "AIDS boogeyman" in there.

2. The days of "the emaciated AIDS patient" are not over, but it's a hell of a lot rarer these days for people who have access to medication and comply with the guidelines. I can guarantee you that each and every one of you has come across people who have HIV - and you would not know it unless they told you.

3. 1&2 represent stereotypes, which are all too common among the uninformed. This is a media-oriented message board, so one would hope that these attitudes/stereotypes would not be prevalent here.

4. The OP seemed to want to salaciously gossip about a perceived illness. Bad form, even for this board.

Didn't know that...It makes more sense now..Although I still don't get why everyone against homosexuality is called "homophobic"...Just because you don't agree with or support something, doesn't mean you have a phobia with it.
