Hats off to both the US and Canadian men's hockey teams.....one of the best games I have seen in quite some time...
Good defense, great goaltending, your fair share of hitting.....good offense too. USA....nice win. |

Can't disagree at all, but today's Russian-Czech game was outstanding, too. U-S-A!!!!

What, was there a hockey game or something on tonight? I must have missed it.
Couldn't have been too important.

That's because NBC had Ice Dancing, so MSNBC had the honor of carrying the hockey game last night.

Actually after the incredible hit Ovechkin placed on Jagr Sunday, it wouldn't surprise me if somebody from Oh, Canuckia! goes headhunting. Of course, if successful, that would put a crimp in my Capitals' season, but oh, well. And I wouldn't count out Team USA, buckaroo. That boy between the pipes can PLAY!

Why would anyone take anything to anything to any bank these days? Anyway I admire your loyalty to your national team... but I remain loyal to mine!

Maybe NBC'll put that on the main network instead of MSNBC again.

Steinman, you were correct. My Mounties hat is tipped to you!
What a great game. Finally something that lived up to the hype! And that bronze medal game yesterday was pretty damn good to. And if you believe Gary Bettman, this will be the last Olympic ice hockey tournament of its kind. No more NHL stars taking two weeks off to skate for their country. It's a shame, because there were a lot of NHL stars that I hadn't heard of (not the least of which was Ryan Miller) until two weeks ago. Anyway, Randy, I gave you the best grief I could and you and your boys (and ladies) in red put me in my place. (How do you say "Congratulations" in Canadian?)

Nah, Tripe. One overtime goal doesn't "put anybody in their place." I've seen enough games in my 30 years in this biz to understand that the difference between winning and losing is often miniscule.
I got a kick out of watching some Canadian post-game analysis last night. They were going on (and on) about how the "Canadian hockey team had been built on character and grit" and how "this win speaks volumes about Canada's dominant position in the hockey world."... blah, blah, blah... Yet, had the U.S. simply snuck an overtime winner past Luongo, the talking heads would have been moaning about "what went wrong?" and "what's the problem with hockey in this country?" and "can we recover from this?" Great tournament. Hopefully the NHL continues to let these guys compete in the Olympics. Two weeks out of every four years is no big deal. Especially when there's no better stage to promote your game and your players.

I used to think that the Olympics shouldn't include pros (basketball and hockey) but after yesterday I'm all for it.
Not a huge hockey fan, but that game was riveting start to finish; it was a game worthy of its status and viewership. Randy, congrats to your nation. Truth is, winning the hockey gold means considerably more to the average Canadian than to the average American, so I was OK with Canada winning the gold on home ice, as long as it was a good and close game, and that it was. |

I was p*ssed beyond all belief that Team USA lost...and I don't even follow hockey that much.
I think I'm getting better today. (Rassemfrassem Canucks...)
