It's not the cancer industry that's laughing all the way to the bank; it's BIG BUSSINESS.

Look at the NFL with pink jerseys to buy, the yogurt companies, and even folks who make pink water bottles. Sure raising money for research is great, but how much money does big business bring in compared to the percent of money given to research. Let's say the NFL sells a pink Jersey for $85. It costs maybe $10 to make the jersey. The NFL gives 10% of the profit to charity. That means the NFL will take in $9 in profit to every dollar given to charity. Most businesses even put a cap of one to $1.5 million to the amount of dollars they will give to charity. In my example, if the NFL sold 10,000 Jersey. The NFL would rake in $675,000 in profit. Cancer charities would only get $75,000. Sounds like supporting breast cancer is more about $green$ than pink.

Ah, but here's the REAL hoodwink: where ultimately does that $75,000 go?

I'd like to see fundraising efforts like this for other kinds of cancer, not just breast cancer.

Like pancreatic. Killed my mother in 2005, is one of he most deadly kinds of cancer...and nobody seems to give a sh*t. Breast cancer, which is MUCH more survivable, is SO much more fashionable to fight.

Do we even NEED our pancreas? I thought that was one of those useless organs, like the gall bladder...or Another Snide's funny bone...ECP's penis.

The pancreas produces the insulin to help fuel your entire body - a very necessary Organ.

I agree on the awareness events for other forms of Cancer. As I posted before - my family and friends have run the gamete on types of cancer - and many of those don't have large organizations funding research for specific cures.

Moms tumors are looking like Ovarian Cancer that strayed to other organs. Her immune system is also killing off her platelets - which explains the need to fuel up every few days. They just took bone marrow from her hip to make sure the cancer hadn't spread into her bones. That would stink! If it's just her auto-immune disorder causing the invasion - its something I have to watch out for in the future since I'm following in her genetic footsteps.

Good news is she's feeling well enough to head home tomorrow and proceed with treatment on an Out Patient basis Woo hoo!
