Bummer, I love Pontiacs.

My Dad had a Ventura II

My Wife had an 87 Grand Am

And we had a 93 Grand Am. Loved that car!

Beyond that, it seems Pontiac's solution for everything in recent years was to slap on some body-colored wheels and cheap plastic spoilers. The recent G8 sedan looks like a good car, but I think too many people think of this when thinking of a modern Pontiac:

That sucker was so bad that Survivor gave it away during one of their previous seasons. It was a "trade-your-vote" kind of deal. Methinks that the "winner" of the Aztec lost out big time...

I'll believe it when I see it.

We said goodbye to Pontiac 7 years ago.

I can't believe GM would ditch Pontiac and keep Buick and GMC. Pontiac is, after all, their 3rd best-selling brand and has quite a following. Buick sells well in China, but they could have killed it here in North America and still sold it over there, like they do with the Opel and Holden brands in Europe and Australia. GMC is very noticably just a Chevrolet rebadge. I don't buy all the marketing crap about "Professional grade" trucks.

In any case, I'll be sad to see the brand go.

Pontiac represented GM's more horsepower/higher torque cars. I suppose that the Administration is taking the fuel efficiency lead on this one.

(Leans back. Once again fondly remembers his 1980 Pontiac Sunbird with the Iron Duke engine, stick shift and vinly interior. It was my first new car.)

Default My Dad's GTO

So, does this mean my Dad's 1968 GTO is more valuable now?

When I was a kid my Dad had a 1965 Pontiac Tempest or as we simply called it "The Pontiac"

It was a Aqua Blue 4 door. My Dad put over 150,000 miles on it before he sold it to a kid who worked at his shop. The car always ran like a top and was pretty fast. I loved that car. I remember my Dad letting me pull it into the driveway when I was 13.
I've probably owned more Chevys than any other brand but I owned a 1989 Grand Prix SE. A very cool car and I currently own a 2002 Grand Prix SE. As a kid I always wanted a '77 Trans Am. One of the nicest cars I've ever seen. I'll miss a world without Pontiac.

What I don't understand is why Pontiac is boom! dead while Saturn, Saab and Hummer are still bobbing around looking for buyers?

Excuse the positioning of the pic, illustrative purposes only

One of my first cars was a '78 Pontiac T-A.
While not as clean as the above (sideways), it could still sing a strong note.
Bought it in Louisiana while working radio and brought it back to the desert, no problems to report.
When returning to Louisiana again, while traveling through Texas, I came upon a Texas Trooper doing patrol along I-10 and just paced his speed. I was in no rush.
He apparently saw me and decided to get off at the next off-ramp.
While watching him, he simply left the freeway on the off-ramp and reentered on the opposite on-ramp and he began to pace my speed.
After about 5 or 6 miles, he gave up and went his merry way.

With 4 barrel carb, I could have had some fun on a central Texas highway, but as I said, I was in no rush.

The one and only Pontiac I've ever had.
Good memories.

Jim Rockford and his Wide-Trac lapels are mystified over the cutback.
