Exclamation prayer request

I know there are a few people on here who pray on occasion, and if not, a simple thought or two would be appreciated by the extended family.

Reader's Digest Version: my wife's best friend's 14-year-old daughter (Hannah) had a aneurism (sp?) in her brain rupture Saturday while Christmas shopping with a friend. She's a week younger than our oldest. She's in ICU at MSC Hospital for Children in Charleston, SC. It doesn't look good. Doctors told Hannah's mom that if it wasn't for her age they would've given up on her by now. My wife is flying to Charleston this afternoon to go and support her friend; our kids and I are heading down/over on Wednesday since they have semester finals this week. Our hope and prayer is for her to recover, but of course it's in God's hands and He's the only one that can do anything now.

The only sign of anything was that she had been complaining about a headache for a while, but neither of them thought anything out of the ordinary of it and threw ibuprofen at it.

I'm not looking forward to talking about death with 14 and 12-year-old boys, either. I think it's over our 4-year-old's head.

Default quick update

My wife made it CHS, and there's no change in Hannah's status.

They're weening her off of the seditive she's on because it can mask positive neural responses.

14-year-old and I talked about it today; 4-year-old brought up something similar today in the car (he's going on 25, BTW ) so we talked about it, too.

Default another quick update

Another quicky update.

Today they're letting her go. They haven't yet, but everybody there is basically doing the logistics for it (i.e. figuring out arrangements, organ donation, etc.). They're going to do an apnea test, where they shut the ventilator off and see if she can breathe any on her own.

It sounds like they made an announcement at her school yesterday letting everyone know what was going on, and sent grief counselors to the school.

My wife is taking care of Hannah's younger siblings (Avery--10, and Kathleen--4) while Mom stays with her.

I asked the older boys if they were OK with going to a funeral if it comes to that, and they both said yes. Neither of them wanted to see her as she is (don't blame them, I don't think I'd want to either since I get light-headed watching MASH ).

I'm very sorry to hear this. A close friend of our family had a child die of the exact same cause. It's so unfortunate...these types of aneurysms strike with very little warning, and are ALMOST invariably fatal. You have my sympathy and prayers.

Hannah didn’t make it. 4:10 (ET) yesterday afternoon.

Arrangements haven’t been made yet (my wife just called and is on the way to the funeral home with her friend), as Hannah hasn’t left the hospital yet. There is a 12-month old that is receiving her liver this morning in the same hospital. The rest of her organs have yet to be removed for donation (why she hasn’t left yet).

Thank you all for your prayers. I know good things come out of bad situations, and that transplant is one of them.

I'm sorry to hear about this...As soon as I saw this thread, I pretty much felt in my heart that this would be the outcome..I know of many people that have had aneurysms, and none have survived it...Reminds me of 1993, the year 2 of my favorite big-time legendary country music singers passed away from aneurysms---David Houston (brain) and Conway Twitty (abdominal)...It's very unfortunate when this occurs as it's almost a sure outcome of death..Just have to look at it as death is only a bad thing for the person's loved ones, while a blessing of eternal peace to the person that has passed....My thoughts and prayers are with everyone dealing with the loss and I pray that the comfort of the holy spirit will fill the emptiness in those hearts affected..

I will not pretend to know the grief involved for the family. It's easy to say "we'll pray," yet it's not possible to really empathize. I can say, though, that there is nothing more comforting or more powerful than to simply sense God's presence in times of need. Just to be assured that He cares, and is intimately involved with a full understanding of the grief they are going through....when He whispers "I am with you" into their hearts. I will pray for that, if nothing else.

Very sorry to hear this, but as you already said, good things to come out of bad situations. God does have a reason for this. We may not know right now, but with prayer and guidance, His plans do get revealed. Who knows, just posting this thread could cause someone on this board to accept Jesus Christ into their life. We may never know, but God does.

A good childhood friend of mine lost his Dad to an aneurysm when we were in the 8th grade. I vividly recall the day. I was getting ready for school that morning and my friend called wanting to know if we could pick him up on our way to the school, because his Dad had a bad headache and did not feel like going out. We were running late ourselves and he didn't live too close to me, so I told him no. After school I was talking to my friend. He got off the phone to take out the trash and was supposed to call me back. He didn't but an hour later my Mom, who worked at the hospital, called me to tell me Wes' dad had been brought in DOA. The next few weeks were hard. In a strange way I was glad I did not go pick him up that morning, because it gave my friend and his Dad once last chance to "bond".

Default Please Pass on Condolences

Weather Minus...

I am in Charleston, and my daughter was in a class with Hannah.
Please pass on condolences to the family, and know that the
Wando High School community is thinking and praying for the
them. It really puts everything into perspective.

What a terrible story... But also at the same time, a story of tremendous generousity and selflessness on the part of her family. To think of the many families that are receiving a phone call this holiday season saying their sons and daughters, brothers and sisters are going to receive a life-saving organ transplant this Christmas...

As someone who has lost a sibling, I can say that it is easy to lose faith... But to all the people who prayed, please know that those prayers did not go unanswered, even if the answer wasn't what you wanted.

God bless you all, and your families this holiday season. Take time to tell your friends that you love them, and your enemies that you forgive them.
