I hope this topic doesn't get deleted.

Where is the cheapest place to buy blank 10-minute VHS tapes?

Also looking for labels. Is eBay the cheapest for those?

When I've been in job search mode, I often made use of MediaLine's tape store. A box comes with the tapes, the sleeves and the stickers. Comes quickly too.

I've used tapeonline.com for VHS in the past. Fair prices, good service.

As for labels, most anything you find at Staples will work fine.

Dude, go to walmart or kmart. An RCA 10-pak of 120min costs $9.99 and whatever your state charges you in tax. i challenge you to find a better deal than that.

The big problem is finding a box for them. You can't go wrong with Wal Mart for tapes - although at 2 hours of tape you're just wasting a bunch of it.

The one with the boxes that come with them sounds good.

Pretty soon we'll all just be sending DVDs or linking to our websites. I'd do the web but I'm just such an old-school type. Maybe I need to stop sending 3/4" tapes.

Agreed. Don't be afraid to buy "Durabrand" either (most inexpensive). I've watched my dubs and they look no different from the Sonys I use.

tapestockonline.com. I got 30 tapes, plus labels and colored sleeves for a nice price there.

I have bought from Carpel Video for cheap -- you can buy blacked-out, used 15 minute VHS's with sleeves cheap. Small outfit out of Maryland. I've never had problems with them.

2nd vote for that place. They've got everything, and you can order a BUNCH of tapes at once. I think I ordered something like 50 a couple of years ago. Some I held on to for other stuff I needed to dub, but hard to argue with the quality and prices. They have a nice selection.

As for labels, a quick visit to an office supply store will do the trick. These days, everything comes with the software you need to make your own VHS labels and spines. It's easy to do, and usually you can save a "template" in Microsoft Word. Before you know it, you'll be churning out tapes faster than places can post job listings. Good luck.

Why do you need sleves?

I sent out many over the last five months and got bites without sleves.

I think above posters are correct about Walmart or Kmart. There tapes are cheap and ND or Chiefs really can't tell the difference. If they are worrying about sleves, you don't want to work there anyway. It's about your tape. It better be dam* good for what it is.

A spine and face label printed and resume paper seems sufficient to me.

Yeah, there's a great format called Betamax you should look into.

The MediaLine Tape Store is a terrific option.

A box of 25 recycled 10-minute VHS tapes are only $1.37 each. And that includes labels, sleeves, and the price of UPS Ground shipping.

For tapes look at actrecycling.org getting the 3 hour tapes at wal-mart will cost you more when you go to sent the tape because of the extra weight. for sleeves look into tapewarehouse.com labels avery from any office supply store or sams club where I get my bubble mailers.

I usually get mine at WalMart for 88 cents a piece...(10-pack for $8.88) I don't worry about sleeves, use the usual 2-hour tapes NEVER had to pay more because of weight...I just usually send them Priority which is now $4.05...or less if you can get away with Media Mail...$1.59 for anything not over 1 lb and a tape plus resume generally is less than 1 lb.

I bought labels for my tapes back in 2000 (approx $10) and still have HUNDREDS left. The sheets go into my ink jet printer and I just print up additional ones when I need them.

If you absolutely need special sleeves, one option I used when I was making some videos for friends and I wanted a fancier look: spray paint them some solid color. Takes a few minutes and looks great.

OR, raid the reject pile in your news director's office. Our ND segregates them into short (5-15 min), medium (1-hour) and long (2 or 3 hr) and we are free to take whatever we need. As a bonus, some come with fancy cases/sleeves!

I have used Carpel in the past and they are a good company and it would behoove us all to utilize the Media Line facilities and services whenever we can, so they can keep making money to allow us to continue to use this fine forum!

The cheapest place is without question your news director's office. Just wait for the rejects after a job posting. Your ND will never notice they're gone and you can then "repurpose" them for yourself.

As for labels. You can get about 1000 Avery compatible templates on Ebay (face and spine) for about $11 plus shipping.

Good to know I'm not the only one with some 3/4 stock. BTW, know where I find a used deck?

Come on, everyone we've already been thru this. Someone here saw the future of the resume tape and dubbed it: YouTube.

Remember?

If you know anyone who lives out in the Seattle area, have them stop by the Boeing Surplus Store. When I was in college a handful of years ago, my brother went there and got blank recycled 15 minute tapes for 10 cents each with hard cover box. He sent me a big box of them.

Have they stopped taking 1" reels yet. The postage is really packing a punch!

It's nearly impossible to find the plastic VHS keeper boxes, but I always go the Wal-Mart route on tapes.
Now, I'm ready to dub my tape from my good old 2-inch:
