Ben Holman passed away today.

For those of you who don't know, Holman was one of the the first black reporters at CBS, if not the first to appear on the air.

He was a mainstay at the University of Maryland since the 70's and was the best professor I ever had in journalism. A traditionalist and a no nonsense news man.

RIP Ben. You'll be missed but you'll live on in reporters like me.

Ben Holman was acting dean my first year at Maryalnd. I never had him for class, but heard great things about him. May he rest in peace.

Ben scared the crap out of his students instead of coddling them. Maybe if more j-schools opened their doors to the men and women like Ben who slugged it out old school maybe I would have reporters ask me if Supreme Court decisions can be appealed.

Gonna miss you Ben ...
