Our internet traffic is way up. 10x (on some stories 1000 times) what it was last year, but still far behind traditional viewership. It's great to finally see some actual growth in our product. On the net, people seem to trust a news organization over a blogger. How long until clients will spend more money on the website than the broadcast?

When web traffic exceeds traditional viewership, for starters.
Then when advertisers can see the demographics they'd reach through the site. That's why you're seeing stations begin to ask people to register.

If I were an advertiser, I wouldn't trust any self-reported demographics from a website. That uncertainty will make it tough for website managers to get the kind of money for their ads that television ads get.

Mark my words, the internet providers themselves will become the demographics distributors of tomorrow, barring legislation to the contrary.
Here's what's going to happen: Websites will get more competitive for content. The crappy ones that look like IBS or God Forbid, whatever crap Nexstar is using, will get more competitive. Then Web Reporters/Producers will be hired as the ad dollars roll in. Content will be one man band, shot and edited. The actual on-air news product will be either phased out entirely or moved to a completely minimal format. One anchor OTS, video graphics, no reporters in the field. Depending on Software, Synthetic Anchors could, would be used. They are already doing some amazing things with the Half Life 2 Engine and text to speech Software at Northwestern. "Live Shots" will consist of a camera with wireless internet access, or satellite internet access. News Vans will be whatever vehicles the company uses with branded logos. |

Hey mockingbird, I'm a web producer that got hired before the ad dollars have started rolling in. When do you guesstimate all that will really start becoming reality?
(That point in time will probably remind me that yes I made a great decision taking this as my first job in the biz, and paying my dues in this particular fashion.)
