Default Vikings punter Chris Kluwe pens scathing letter to anti-gay politician

The language is a bit harsh, so you've been warned, but this a great story and Kluwe is a damn good writer.

I agree with the author's sentiment, but I thought the writing was immature.

How many pro football players can write that well, even if his attitude was disrespectful? Beyond that, it was a very fun read.

Yeah, I believe he's submitted a PG version of the letter too, but I liked the passion of the original. And, I thought the original was pretty damn funny too.

What!?!? Did I miss something? When did punters become football players? I thought kickers & punters were just part of teams' compliance to EOE laws so the NFL didn't violate any work place diversity laws.

For the record, it's nice to see a guy stand up for civil rights when he doesn't have to.

I'm kind of naive. Is Viking Punter a euphemism for something?

He wasn't alone either one of the Steelers showed his public support for the Raven who the punter was defending... and believe me 99.99% Steelers HATE everything about the Ravens. Oh, and a Raven's official told the player who was attacked by that idiot politician that the team supports him, too.

Just curious, are you one of the folks who suggest candidates for the NFL Hall of Fame? If you are, this may explain why Ray Guy keeps getting snubbed.

Why yes, I am! In my defense, no one who kicks a ball will get in on my watch. Seriously, how hard is it/was it to kick a ball? Think about it! The NFL record holder for longest field goal made only had half a foot. Just imagine how much further the real record would if the kicker had an entire foot with toes!

Funny, one can't play running back with half a leg, quarterback without an elbow, or safety sans hands; yet a kicker can excel without a whole foot.

Peyton Manning said it best at the Pro Bowl a few years ago when asked about a place kicker & he began his response by putting the astute adjective, "idiot" before he mentioned the word kicker.

So why aren't you in the NFL as a kicker, again? Making too much at your current job?

Maryland politics is a joke. I agree with the message that we all have the right to our opinion. The problem herein liesd when opinions clash. My opinion on something isn't wrong, nor is your polar opposite opinion wrong. It is too bad both politcal sides don't really see it that way.

By the way, the punter is an idiot for writing it the weay he did. Sarcasm, cussing and vileness really takes away from what was a credible message.

I'm just surprised that a guy who punts for Minnesota has time to write any letters.

Is he really?

His aim was to bring attention to his opposition of what the politician did. And boy did he get attention. I got links to the letter on both Twitter and Facebook days before it showed up here.

Was it classless? Sure... but it was effective.

He made his point without the 'shove it in your pie hole' stuff.

And since it was brought up, if punters and kickers can be in college Halls of Fame, why not Canton? And the one punter that especially deserves to be in is Ray Guy, since he was an absolute field position weapon...

That was awesome.

About punters and place kickers, they definitely should be eligible for the Hall of Fame. Most teams can handle injuries at any position, even quaterback, but if a team loses it's place kicker or punter, you're in for some ugly football.

Good point. Most teams let their second teamers get a few plays during the season to make sure they're game-ready in case they're needed. But how often have you seen an NFL team let their second team punter or place kicker into a game unless absolutely necessary?

I most cases the emergency kicker or punter is a quaterback or maybe a defensive lineman that may have once kicked in high school.

I can tell you the punter was a key to San Francisco's success last year. With a strong defense and a developing offense, they relied heavily on the punter winning the field position battle for them.

FYI, Dempsey's 63 yard record field goal has been equaled by three other players: Elam (1998), Janikowski (2011), Akers (yesterday).

FYI - I decide who gets into the NFL HOF, so facts, stats, & actual truth means absolutely nothing to me! I don't need reality when I can go with my gut!
