Default R.I.P Patrick Greenlaw

former CNN anchor...Patrick Edward Greenlaw of Old Orchard Beach, Maine passed away in Lone Tree, Colorado on June 3, 2011. Patrick was born on August 13, 1948 in Portland, Maine to Edward Winslow Greenlaw and Grace Viola Dowd.

He is survived by his wife Debra Greenlaw; daughter Brittany Greenlaw; brother and wife Peter and Sarah Greenlaw; niece Amy Greenlaw; and four nephews - Drew Greenlaw, Colin Greenlaw, Nick Boff and Zack Boff.

Patrick graduated Magna, Cum Laude from the University of Maine in 1971. While earning his Masters Degree, Patrick graduated Summa Cum Laude at Boston University in 1974.

Over his 30-year career as a broadcast journalist, Patrick made an impact on and changed countless lives everywhere. Cities where Patricks presence not only impacted the community but where he impacted anyone who came in contact with him include: WKYT in Lexington, Kentucky; KUTV in Salt Lake City, Utah; WCAU in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; CNN in Atlanta, Georgia; WTVG in Toledo, Ohio; WMTW in Portland, Maine; KDAF in Dallas, Texas; and lastly in Denver, Colorado. During his media career, Patrick was nominated for (8) and won (3) Emmy awards; he won (5) Associated Press Awards; (3) Crystal Awards; (1) Edward R. Murrow Award; and many other regional awards for his accurate and provocative investigative reporting.

Patrick touched countless lives with his generosity, kindness, intelligence and tender heart. He was courteous, polite, compassionate, and attentive to everyone equally from the local dry cleaning attendant to foreign dignitaries, politicians, and celebrities. Patricks genuine interest in and compassion for everyone he met made him an amazing journalist. Patrick was articulate, objective and meticulous when it came to reporting and investigating a lead. Over his career, Patrick was never accused of liable, and never over the course of 30 years did he have to retract a story. His personal integrity and compassion motivated every thing he did in his life and in his career as a journalist.

He donated his time and energy to numerous charities over the years which include: the Boys and Girls Club; the Visiting Nurses Association; the Multiple Sclerosis Society; the American Juvenile Diabetes Association; the Jerry Lewis Telethon; the Easter Seals; the Great Dane Rescue; the Toledo Symphony; the Childrens Miracle Network; and many, many other worthwhile causes. The lives that Patrick touched and all those who benefited by Patricks presence and encouragement are too numerous to encompass.

The last endeavor Patrick embarked upon Isagenix International, the world leader in nutritional cleansing - has and will positively impact more lives as well as eclipse anything he has done to date.

As each of you know, Patrick was the most stubborn, loving, generous man you know. He was a devoted son, a great brother, a wonderful husband, a loving and kind father, an indulgent uncle, a great friend and truly a good man.

Memorial donations may be made in Patrick's name to the American Cancer Society, 2255 South Oneida Street, Denver, Colorado 80224 or online at www.acs.org.

This comes as a shock. I knew Patrick. Rather well actually. I had lost track of him over the last ten years.

I floor directed for him back in the late 80's. Always upbeat, always respectful of everyone he worked with. Just a classy guy.

Never worked with him, but his Isagenix products are quite tasty and healthful.

He went before his shakes. And before his (lemon-) Lime.

I hate to pick on an obit, but he "was never accused of liable" ? Do copyeditors even check obits any more? Mere spellcheck isn't going to catch that ... and it seems that a journalist like Patrick would be spinning over that one.

They barely have copy editors these days.

Perhaps they should start crowd-sourcing that job, too.
