Default The Lingerie Commercial Fox and ABC Did Not Want Its Viewers To See

Excerpt: From LaneBryant.com:

Quote:
ABC and Fox have made the decision to define beauty for you by denying our new, groundbreaking Cacique commercial from airing freely on their networks.

ABC restricted our airtime and refused to show the commercial during “Dancing with the Stars.” Fox demanded excessive re-edits and rebuffed it three times before relenting to air it during the final 10 minutes of “American Idol,” but only after we threatened to pull the ad buy.

Yes, these are the same networks that have scantily-clad housewives so desperate they seduce every man on the block, and don’t forget Bart Simpson, who has shown us the moon more often than NASA, all in what they call “family hour.”

We knew the ads were sexy, but they are not salacious. Our new commercials represent the sensuality of the curvy woman who has more to show the world than the typical waif-like lingerie model. What we didn’t know was that the networks, which regularly run Victoria’s Secret and Playtex advertising on the very shows from which we’re restricted, would object to a different view of beauty. If Victoria’s Secret and Playtex can run ads at any time, why not Lane Bryant
Here's the commercial:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Uvjxx7UJRs

So what do you think? Too sexy for prime time TV? Or just too curvy?

I don't think the ad was inappropriate for prime time. Where they lost me was invoking Bart Simpson as the ultimate example of the evils of network television. What is this, 1992?

Hey I'm with you, Hush. They can keep those skinny, bean pole dames. Sure I'll admit I like to look, but in real life I prefer a girl with some curves, like Mrs. Broken.

I love how the tinyurl for this link has the letters y-u-m in it.

My favorite part of the article: "The networks exclaimed, 'She has…cleavage!' Gasp!"

I'd think that would fit the Fox Demo perfectly ...

What a coincidence - that's one of my favorite parts of Mrs. Broken!

I'm really getting tired of these fake "they didn't run our controversial ad!" controversies that are thinly-disguised press releases for the stupid product. Have these PR people not had an original thought in ten years?

But in this case, I think they are right to be a little outraged about it.

This isn't GoDaddy putting together a spot that is intentionally over the line.

This isn't the advocacy group milking free mileage out of the Tebow spot with all the attendant controversy.

If you showed me that spot and said "would it be rejected?" I would say no.

I could definitely see that running during daytime soaps, or even mid-late prime.

I see no problem with the commercial as presented at that link, but...

How do you know?

All I see is what Lane Bryant's marketing department wrote about the commercial. All I see is what those marketeers say was the reaction from the network. Where's the networks' side of this story?

Also, is that the original version, or the version that actually aired after the edits Fox requested? That isn't clear. With the heavy spin on the way this story is presented, it wouldn't surprise me if this weren't the original version that was rejected, but the edited version shown to make LB look better.

What I see here is an automatic predisposition toward outrage, based on a one-sided corporate press release. This smells a lot like an attempt by LB to manipulate its own customers by playing on their own body image issues.

One page on the LB web site reads "Watch The Uncut versions during American Idol 4/27" - so it's possible that this is the edited version that Fox approved - and the more racy spot will actually air.

I watched the behind the scenes video as well - showing the taping of the commercial - and I still didn't see anything racier than a Victoria's Secret commercial. I've no doubt that Lane Bryant is taking full advantage of the PR opportunity. But I also believe that FOX and ABC did say they wouldn't run the commercial because the model actually had real cleavage showing.

I just hope FOX and ABC network exes don't run in to me one day. I'm sure to have some level of cleavage showing too! I wouldn't want to offend them.

Indeed. What's this place coming to? My mammary isn't what it used to be, but I remember not that long ago when ML was a place where one could keep abreast of world events. Now it seems to be little more than a gathering place for boobs and perverts.

They're a bunch of lovable perverts though - you have to admit that.

I wonder if, coincidentally, these spots will run close to the quarter hours? :tinfoilhat:

I believe the first spot airs the last ten minutes of American Idol on the 26th - not sure if that will be the clothing spot or the lingerie spot.

It's a curvy girl's best asset I think I want to get that pink bra and ruffle panties. They're cute.
