Aren't they required to keep an address in their districts though? I always think it's shady when someone doesn't live in their district at least part of the time.

Not for Congress. They simply have to live in the state of that district. State assemblies vary by state.

I agree that it's shady when someone doesn't live in the district he or she is running or elected to represent.

That is all that is required Constitutionally. Some states have laws requiring their Congressional Representatives live in their districts. New York isn't one of them.

BTW, Great Britain does not require members of its House of Commons to live in the "constituency" they are elected from. In fact, many members don't.

One more thing I want to remind everyone of regarding this year's election:

Several months ago, maybe even before Virginia's primary was held, Tripe Face predicted Bob McDonnell would be the next Governor of Virginia, citing his record of service and so on. So we should credit Mr. Face for calling this one a long time ago.

Often superior candidates transcend political labels. As I said, McDonnell ran a flawless race. Deeds - not so much. It's not that Deeds was "bad", he was just uninspiring.

Hmm...I'd have to disagree on this one. After running such a great horse race for Atty. Gen. against the same opponent a few years back, he made misstep after misstep in this one. The 'young lady' ad really hurt him with two key demos: people who hate taxes...and women. I mean, that was the most condescending tone I think I've ever heard from a pol answering a question, and she came off as a nice person doing her job.

Mr. Bear has a point about Deeds and the reporter. If a Republican or conservative had done that, it would have probably made national news. But what Mr. Deeds did was not smart and it got enough attention statewide. I've heard some of the pundits say he wasn't exciting and maybe he wasn't compared to some Virginia politicians like Mark Warner, George Allen or Douglas Wilder, but compared to former Governor Gerald Baliles, Deeds is dynamic!

Of the three Democrats running, Mr. Deeds was the best, as I see it. Terry McAuliffe came across as feeling entitled to the nomination, and Brian Moran's refusal to publicly disavow his Congressman brother's anti-Semitism is troubling to me. Mr. Deeds had to spend more in the primary because of the challengers.

Bob McDonnell had the advantages of running unopposed in his primary and four years as the state's top lawyer, so he didn't have to spend much money early on.

It also didn't help Deeds with Democrats that he opposed a public option in any healthcare reform.

Yes, but he also predicted that the Redskins would have a decent team this year....

Credit is taken away..
