Surprised there is an opening. Mike Bruenling has been chief there a long time. Number two guy, Chad Franzen, also there for six or seven years and quite good.

Dan, I was news director at WSAW-TV for about 15 months. I don't recall the pay for the chief, but it would probably be in the upper 50s or mid 60s. Gray is not a bad employer, but it has a bunch of insurance execs on the board of directors so they are strict on random drug testing, clean driving record, etc. Decent benefits. Wausau is a very nice litte town and not far from just about everything in Wisconsin.

I have applied for the WSAW job using these links through TVJobs.com. If I thought that it would be advantageous, I would likely send a DVD. The curiosity of what a 135 market in somewhat severe weather country might pay is important. If it is 35K, then I wouldn't do it. But, I know of some small and severe weather markets that pay a lot more. That is why I turned to you. I apologize in advance if I am a bother.

If you happened to still have connections to WSAW, and would be willing to help, I would be gratified. I am a CBM and have 31 years of experience. I'm willing to work for less.

Here is a look at some of my work if you have time:

I have made the high end of salary; and was lucky enough to save and build equity in a home. My love is presenting weather on TV, but with all the downsizing, looking for a job this time around has been the most difficult of my career.

I may simply get out and follow some other entrepreneurial possibilities. But, I love working in front of the camera as the weather expert.

Grey is the company that owns WSAW; and if I remember correctly as I have read these boards, I think I remember you knew a lot about the company. I know it is small time compared to SLC and The Weather Channel, but I could be a good mentor to "up and coming weathercasters" as my career winds down. A smaller TV station could get the expertise of a seasoned Meteorologist...plus, I really enjoyed Wisconsin weather. (I understand the big difference between Milwaukee and Wausau with temperatures and the Lake influence).

    Gil, Part 1

I know you are retired and all. But, you have a good understanding of the Wisconsin TV market.

Short story. I moved up the News Chain as a Meteorologist, starting in Medford, OR, ending at The Weather Channel, Milwaukee...and eventually Chief Meteorologist in Salt Lake City. Most recently after our 10 PM team was blown up by Clear Channel TV--before it was destroyed and sold to Newport TV, I moved to weekends at KSL-TV (worked 5 years) and was not renewed in favor of a female half my age as of January 31st. (You know, the trend to hire less experienced for less money).

I really enjoyed working as a Meteorologist in Milwaukee (1989-1992) and have indulged in the idea of going back to small market TV as a Chief. There is a job open at WSAW-TV for a Chief. What (in a general ball-park) would that position pay and, what is the cost of living in Wausau compared to Milwaukee?
