Well, she had to turn up somewhere:

“Alycia is an experienced anchor and skilled reporter who has a tremendous ability to engage and connect with the audience,” said President/General Manager Craig Robinson.

Especially if the audience is Rich Eisen.

She connected pretty well with the NYC police too...

I think it's refreshing when an anchor is supposed to be in a news story, as opposed to the usual gratuitous insertions.

And speaking of gratuitous insertions, I wouldn't mind showing her my newsbriefs, if you know what I mean.

Rich Eisen? Really?

No...Al Eisen. As in inventor of 2000 Flushes. As in Larry Mendte's next job in broadcasting, "Because cleaning the toilet is a dirty rotten job, nobody wants to do it!"

Either way... not exactly a looker in my books.

Does that avatar come in a larger size? Wowser, that vision would be enough to even get old Al up and running!

I swear to you that I've looked away and back at that picture several times, and it doesn't matter.

Every time I read the caption as 'Alien Inventor.'

That might explain why he has no thumb.

Yes it does. It is my motivation to not eat crap while sitting surfing this website. Eat crap = look like crap.

To each his own. But there's a lot of good people in this world who "look like crap" which, I presume from your remark means "overweight." I'll bet some even write in these threads.

Wasn't Beard an anchor in Buffalo earlier in his career?

Yes. This is a homecoming of sorts for him.

"Of a sorts" would be right. Time to get a hardtop for the SL...

Bigger LA news, Bob Long retiring from KNBC. Also an old Beard haunt.

Beard's strangest day at KNBC was when a deranged guy barged onto the set and pointed what looked like a real gun at David Horowitz. Beard saw that the booth had taken the set off the air, then took the gun away, which turned out to be a realistic-looking toy.

OK, back to the Lane lovefest...

I was just referring to my own personal appearance/metabolism. I should also add to that equation Eat Like Crap = Feel Like Crap. I feel so much better (mentally and physically) when I make a healthy choice instead of grabbing that cheeseburger and fries(which I do love to have from time to time).

Sorry... I probably should have made that clear and I'm sorry if I offended you (or others).

No apology necessary, and you didn't offend me. I'm a little vain myself.

Don't forget Bob Long....

L.A. news lost much of its credibility years ago when Eyewingit news rolled into town.

Remember the fake earthquake stunt in 1989?

Remember the O.J. Simpson chase and coverage?

Remember Jerry Dum Dums?

Remember all of those anchors doing cameos in movies?

Remember the mooning of the cameras on the KTLA Morning show?

L.A. news and integrity? Hal Fischman is spinning in his grave.

I don't blame Beard for heading back to Buffalo.

I liked working with Jerry. And all the best to Long, as I mentioned above. But the public seems to want wall-to-wall on breaking stuff like OJ, car chases, etc --- at least if you judge by the backlash on not airing fire coverage. And as for movie cameos, as Beard said himself when we were both on some Hollywood set and I asked him what the hell he was doing there "Hey, ya can't beat two grand a day..."

I guess the bigger thing to do is wish Lane well, since Hollywood loves comeback stories. And at least she's not taking anybody's gig...

Nope.

One of the greatest TV stories of all time. I can still see the white Bronco with a dozen or so cop cars shadowing from behind in my head, and that was how many years ago? I don't know whether there was a news director on the he planet who muttered, "Aw, it's just a chase. Let's drop it and go back to proramming." It was mesmerizing televison.

Remember Jerry Dum Dums?

Huh?

Remember all of those anchors doing cameos in movies?

Part of the uniqueness of Southern California is the existence of the entertainment business and the unexpected, temporary opportunities it offers to just about anyone who can walk. We had a movie producer knock on our door one Saturday afternoon to ask to meet our 12-year-old daughter. One of our neighbors was working on a movie when the young lead character didn't show, and e the neighbor suggested our daughter could fill in a couple of scenes so shooting could continue. So she did and has a great memory to tell her own children about. And for anchors, it's a win-win, as I see it.

Fifteen years ago, 1994. I still remember it and thinking that OJ had just been last seen being chased by a cop at the end of the Naked Gun 33 1/3 film.
