I apologize if I'm late to the party on this one (it's six weeks old), but I saw this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5C2gihnEkE&feature=player_embedded) for the first time today.

The reporter clearly has no video to work with - and tries to make something out of nothing - but does he go too far? The majority of 602 comments aren't exactly supportive.

(For the record, I have no idea if this aired as a kicker item.)

I hadn't seen this before today. Wow. Just wow. Has to be a joke right?

We did have a thread about this some time back, but it bears repeating.

My mistake.

The original thread, started by Spike, is here (http://openline.medialine.com/showthread.php?t=32497&highlight=cardboard).

That's okay. It's a classic that should be shown in journalism schools.

Highlights:

1) The dramatization of the bear sinusoidally frolicking into the woods.

2) Reporter: "She's never seen [a bear]." Woman: "Then I saw a bear scat."

3) "Scat is the good-natured word for poop."

4) Reporter in his mask used to attract kids: "I'm good. I'm faster than a bear."

5) The fake foam bear pawprint...that looks like scat.

6) Someone at the station actually took the package and uploaded it, pad and all.

That and "Boom goes the dynamite". Maybe they could be combined into "Boom there be the Bear Scat." That'd be epic.

Stuff like this should get people fired.
There are good, no-nonsense reporters out there without jobs while this joker is wasting 2 minutes of news time.
And no, it isn't just the reporter's fault. The manager who said, 'Sure, have fun!' should also get a swift kick.

And then there was the SOT with someone wearing a rabbits head at the end. It helped with the flow because he was "faster than a bear"

I tried to do so with only a brief paws in the discussion.

I absolutely agree. It's ridiculous there are people, GOOD people without jobs right now and this goon is allowed to broadcast into peoples' living rooms. Unbelievable.

And that is why, all of you wide-eyed J school grads, you GO TO ANOTHER FIELD! Crap like this is the demise of the business.

Upon further review, I can't say as I blame this reporter.

This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDhZ-E-3nlU&NR=1) is what happens when WJW reporters use real animals:http://img174.imageshack.us/img174/4748/ownedbycat.jpg

If a cuddly little cat can do this, if I'm a WJW reporter I damn sure ain't screwing with a bear. :shifty:
