I should probably have some idea on this, but I don't. I want to make a resume tape on my friend's Mac computer so I don't have to do it at work. But how can I download video links of my stories from my station's website?

Is there a program I have to download? Thanks in advance.

You do not want to make your resume reel from video you download from your station's web site. If you can get copies of your work on MiniDV tape or DVD, you'll be starting with much better video quality.

Get one of these. Hook it up to your NLE and copy your clips to it. Take 'em home and edit away.

That'll be 5 cents.

Yea, don't use web video for a resume tape. If you want to keep your search quiet, the best way then is to DVR/Tivo the newscasts at home, transfer it to your pc and edit away.

Another question I should probably know, but how do you take Tivo recorded newscasts and transfer them to your computer?

Oh now that's fun! It's what I do.

You need TiVo Desktop (http://www.tivo.com/buytivo/tivogear/software/index.html) (free) to transfer the shows to your computer. However, it's in TiVo's proprietary format, so it's useless... until you convert it to an mpeg using DirectShow Dump (http://greg_burns.home.comcast.net/DirectShowDump.zip). From there, you simply ingest the resulting mpeg into your video editor of choice.

edit to add: I see you're using a mac. I have no idea how to help you.

Hook up a MiniDV camcorder to the RCA outputs of your Tivo and record it old-school? That's how I have done it.

If you must record video clips off teh Internets (and their poo-poo quality), the latest version of RealPlayer (http://www.real.com/) will let you do it with all non-DRM clips.

Then it's up to you to find a converter (I recommend MediaCoder (http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/)) to convert those Flash files into something your NLE will recognize (.MPG, .AVI or whatever).

It's simple Download Realplayer 10. When setting up software make sure to say "YES" to allowing automatic downloads. Now when you go to any website with video a small tab will pop up and allow you to save that video to your computer.

Run Firefox and download Download Helper (http://www.downloadhelper.net/)

It's simple.
