Charleston will have yet another news outlet starting in June. WLCN-HD will be on air and produce a morning, midday, early evening and primetime newscast.

It looks very basic based on the website...but maybe they have the secret to TV success.
I wish no station ill will, but a start up seems pretty tough to sell right now.

I live in a market that had a station start up a few months ago. They only do one newscast a day and lots of web content but that one newscast, oh my! They're obviously trying to save money on lighting and a set because there are neither. The anchor sits at a desk and turns her laptop around so we can see what she's pointing at on the screen. And she's literally sitting in big, dark shadows. I guess that cuts down on the make-up expenses because it's too dark to tell if she's wearing any. And, no, this isn't Market 210. I live in a medium sized market between 50-100.

According to the station's website (http://www.wlcntv.com/about/), "WLCN HD is owned and operated by Faith Assembly of God (http://www.faithishere.org/), in Summerville South Carolina."

I'm sure the news programs will focus on the "fundamentals."

Looks like Nick Salvucci, former reporter at WCIV, will be working there, along with some '97 Fort Dorchester grad....

Here's the bio of one employee....seems a bit quirky...ameturs...

WLCN HD 18 Anchor Jody Only has a decade of newsroom experience working as a Journalist in the Charleston area. Originally from Pittsburgh, Jody came to the Lowcountry more than 20 years ago. Fueled by her love for our community, she has worked hard to develop a rich understanding of the political and cultural landscape. Jody has also dedicated her career to making a difference in the community and by telling stories that shape our quality of life.

Prior to joining WLCN, Jody spent time as an Intern at WCIV-TV, gaining experience as a Weekend Assignment Manager and Reporter. You may recognize Jody from her work as an Anchor/Reporter at the "Berkeley Herald News Hour". During her tenure, Jody developed "Only in the Lowcountry", a regular feature segment that was later adopted by LowCountryToday.com.

Jody’s passion for the community extends into her personal life. Jody and her husband Pete started their own mission to bring the unsaved to Christ with their annual play, "Heavenly House." The production is in its 10th year. Jody's main goals are to fulfill God's purpose in her life and to let other know the love of Christ, encourage them to follow their dreams and to embrace Mark 10:27 "All Things are possible with God."

According to the FCC, it is a Class A Low Power TV station. That means no must-carry for cable.

One can assume you a) don't read half the threads on this site, and b) need to lighten up Francis!
And whatever you do, might I suggest NEVER going to see a comedian....you will be simply shocked to hear what they joke about!

Sounds like an interesting station at first, until I see "low power analog"...Perhaps, if they can get some cable carriers, then they'd have a chance...Otherwise, they don't stand a chance considering after June 12, they'd be the only station in the market broadcasting on analog (and low power at that, so I'd imagine the reception would be fairly poor in many areas)...On top of that, it's like a 100 market, so it's not THAT many people within a few miles of that tower to be watching...Also, there's 4 other stations that have newscasts in this little market! Seems like a dead-end idea from all angles to me!

What an odd sentence. Also, you don't capitalize the "g" in "gays".

I've never seen anyone here speak badly of Gods and Generals, if that helps.

And while we're on the subject, what do gods and gays need with a starship?

Where do you get "analog?" The station is WLCN HD -- as in High Definition. It's digital.

Still not a bet to last, but at least they are fit to broadcast post June 12.

ahh! my bad! I didn't catch the HD part...All I saw from the FCC database was:

Service Designation: CA

I've always heard that CA stood for "Class-A Analog" and CD stood for "Class-A Digital"...Maybe I misunderstood something?
