I often watch the series "Making News" put out by the TV Guide Channel. I'm wondering if you think it's pretty realistic compared to where you work. What do you think they leave out?
If you haven't seen the series, you can find it here: http://www.youtube.com/show?p=wWXFGo6fIgw

Reality shows are based on reality(the people are real) but the show can be edited in the way the producers want to portray it. Making a reporter seem like a snot, an idiot and so on. There were things in the show that reminded me of former shops I worked in and it was at times entertaining.
The best show I ever saw that gave a realistic view of the workings of a newsroom was a documentary called "Breaking News". It was produced in the early 00's and aired out here on the local PBS station. Not as entertaining as "Making News..." (which is probably why it didn't continue for long) but the show to watch if you're interested in how a news operation really works. It followed newsrooms in L.A., Miami and a few other cities I can't recall. I've got some episodes on VHS somewhere. I'm not sure if you can find it anywhere but if you can I highly recommend it.

Does anyone know if Making News is continuing with a new season this summer? If so, what station? Any details?

There are no new entries on IMDB.com for "Making News" beyond the Savannah edition.
I caught a couple episodes, and it did remind me of my first small-town station: fairly close-knit, underpaid employees, everyone looking to advance to a bigger market, equipment always being broken, etc.

Maybe the numbers from the first go around are starting to show up....as in, 'making' an already low-rated newscast even lower. Kinda a trickle down effect....small boost/stay the same at first....but kicked off stool of credibilitiy as the months unfolded.
Ahhhhh, kinda poetic.
Well.
Kinda.

Okay, watched the first one. -Or at least I skipped through parts of it. Little or no focus on the photogs. WTF? Photogs aren't an important part of the news business?

I'm watching episode 4 now: "Oh, woe is me, I have to do my own makeup, at top ten markets they have a makeup person to do it for you..."
