Anyone with info about the market? I heard there was a Fox start-up and the NBC station keeps advertising for a morning anchor.

All that I can offer is that the cost of living is quite reasonable. I looked at several cities in the South, a few years ago, and found that Jackson is relatively inexpensive, compared to other Southern markets. If you go for it, good luck!

There's a reason that it is relatively inexpensive in Jackson. That being said there is a fox start up there and the news director is a nice guy, although it is his first job. It has taken them longer to get on air than planned...

If you work in Jackson, you don't live in Jackson.
The Fox is supposed to be on the air in February... even though they planned to be on the air last May.
Think about the economy and how much a start up can make in a market with three established stations.
If you're thinking about the Fox, you gotta be thinking about a first job.
I doubt that it'll last long.

I would say to get Sat radio. The radio stations down there are wonkey unless you are a country music type of guy...

I'm from Jackson and worked there for a number of years.
Here's what I know...
NBC is the dominate #1 station.
ABC/CBS battle out for the number 2 and 3 spots.
ABC with David Hartman is the dominate weather station
CBS is probably 2nd with NBC a close 3rd.
This is the 3rd attempt by FOX to have a newcast. It has folded all other times. I thought about applying for a position there a while back, but backed away once I considered the chances for it to survive. Chances are they will fold again. Just not enough business in this bad economy for 4 stations there. It's an uphill battle to say the least.
Jackson is not a bad place to live, however, don't live in the city of Jackson. Crime is very bad. Madison, Brandon, Florence, Clinton are all good places to consider. Raymond is not that bad either.
Cost of living in Jackson isn't that bad, but once you get outside of it, it does go up.
People are friendly and food is very good. I strongly recommend Hamils. Southern food at it's best. Nygoya is probably the best sushi restaurant I've ever eaten at. I recommend Like U and Mississippi Role.
Several good churches there.
Not a great night life and not much to do outside of dinner and a movie.

Watch where you park and carry a gun.
Although you won't need the gun for the crime. You will need it to defend yourself from Mayor Frank Melton as he busts up in your "suspected crack house" after few rounds with his bodyguards.
