View Full Version : Where have the business and tech shows gone?

Hey all,

A somewhat naive (but maybe not) question wearing my post-TV post-PR post-TV hat...

What has happened to all the nifty keen Business and Technology shows that I used to get my tech and B 2 B clients on from about the late 1980's to the early 2000's?

I've got a new IT association client CEO that's looking for more national broadcast exposure and it seems to me that most of the shows have vanished....shows like CNN's Futurewatch, CNN's Your Money, The Wall Street Journal TV Report (now a front for the Money Honey instead of packages), Nation's Business (I think that's a cheesy live show now with few packages). Nightly Business Report on PBS out of WPBT in Miami is still around.

Short of dating Lindsay Lohan, marrying Drew Peterson (and dying) or competing on Dancing with the Stars, what's a C-level exec supposed to do other than obscure podcasts on blogs and tech sites? Are there some major programs still out there (radio or TV) I'm missing that care about business trends, new technology, the economy etc? Or is (gulp) this the future?

What was the future, is now, now. The news special segments aint what they used to be. If it aint a medical center sponsoring the report, it aint happening.

Haven't we been assured that YouTube is the future? ;)

Segments, I'm talking full half hour shows. Used to be about a dozen I could get even unknown clients on if they had a halfway decent new tech product, or were gurus for a business trend.

Are we talking geek tech? there's always "Attack of the Show" on G4.

As for business trends, I may be stating the obvious, but there's CNBC, FOX Business and Bloomberg.

Boy unless it's a public company or iPod like technology products I'm not finding venues there.

Sorry to say this, but, especially with the economy as it is, your friend's best bet is to go local, and hope for someone out there to pick up on it.

They're called podcasts, Copernicus. Download the Tech Guy and listen while you're hot linking wacky photos and accusing me of having multiple screen names.

Read much? I mentioned podcast in the opening post. Why don't you go spin your myopic magic by duplicating your earlier feat and post "Oksana Baiul" for the forth time in one of the "Bool" threads?

I will as soon as you learn how to post your childish photos without having to hotlink to another web site.

Dear Roy,

There's an ignore feature. Use it.

See you in a few weeks, I hope.

What s'news said.

Ignore can save you major aggravation -- and your quoting posts that some of us ignore forces us to see them, too.

If a particular poster generally sends you up the wall, put that person on Ignore and find proof that sometimes ignorance can bring you a little closer to bliss.

Besides, calling attention to his antics only encourages him, and it's just what he wants.

Don't worry, my friend. No one ignores you. It's just one of those things that people claim that they will hope to make you cool. Like when I tell girls that I am a special agent for Mossad.
