When did the music industry feel we needed to hear angry, depressed, suicidal music? I miss good rock music. What other music do you miss?

My Father always described it this way.
Music is a Historical Record of our times. Reaction and interpretation of Economic highs and lows, 7 years of a drawn out war that's going nowhere, or of prosperity and hope.
They sing and play what we feel. They are a different breed of people, but they know how to sing our songs. They are like the Canary in the Mine, the Thunder before Rain.
They Warn Us of pending strife and danger, or happiness and joy?
They are just telling your story in the times that you lived.
Create a Happy Place for them, and they will sing a happy Tune.

Not all music these days is sad and depressing. Not all music from the past was happy.

That's right. Just listen to Paul McCartney's "Won't You Listen (to what The Man Said)" It's not sad and depressing; it's not happy; it's, it's....just is.:eek:

I like the bands that focus more on the instrument parts of songs instead of lyrics. Bands like Tool, Chemical Brothers, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin. Sure some of their songs have lyrics that are depressing but I enjoy their different flavors of music.

You want fun and happy - tune into Radio Disney. The Jonas Brothers new song "Love Bug" is so sickeningly sweet I've given it a "whammy" award. {Worst song of the year}

When did the opera industry decide we needed to hear nothing but angry, depressed, suicidal arias and operatic choruses about love-smitten homocidal maniacs? I miss happy operas about irrelevant stupid things. What other operas do you miss?

Good call. I can't complain, since my teenager lost his short attraction to rap & hard rock and now plays the music I grew up with. But even I didn't like most of Dylan's stuff, and he's playing "Maggies' Farm" and a couple of Dead songs I hated into the ground.
The new Coldplay is great, so is U2. Anything Brian Setzer puts out is sure happy. The latest Alan Jackson lived up to its title - "Good Time." And although there's a bunch of treacly country, there's also a batch of some really fine, fun stuff to hear like "Firecracker." But please tell me wtf Kevin Costner is thinking...

Bands like Tool,.
I saw them when they came through supporting Undertow. Great show, but the loudest concert experience I've ever had. First time I ever moshed. :rockon:

Some of these "socially relevant" tunes make the old country songs about getting drunk and cheating sound happy. ;)

Sheesh Matt, I thought you'd love the latest Moby. It's his dedication of love to New York party life...
