I'm so glad that in the middle of the Chase, sh!tty tires and NASCAR stupidty will decide who wins the cup... not the skill of the drivers and their teams.
NASCAR SUCKS!

It's been a bad year for Goodyear this year, that's for sure.
I have no problem with Smoke winning the race, as he was able to nicely exploit just how counterproductive the Below The Line rule is at Talladega. The shame of it all is that Regan Smith went from winning to 2nd to just being able to finish in the Top 20.

Really, really disappointed to see Neck-car rule the way it did just to cover Tony's butt. It looked to me like Smith went low and then Tony forced him waaaaay down there. What was the kid supposed to do? Knock the crap out of a two-time champ and get labeled a hothead, or drop below the line?
It's another reason NASCAR continually loses credibility. Smith won, not Tony.
And here's the best part: I'm a Smoke fan.

I'm a Smoke and Junior fan, and believe Smith won that race as well. I'm surprised there has not been any appeal issued by DEI on it.
It was mentioned during the last lap of the truck race on Sunday that anything goes on the last lap, and there is a NASCAR official on record stating that was the case a few years ago, with no modifications to the rule since then.
Reagen had every reason to believe he could make that move and it would be considered legal.
Another classic case of NASCAR's inconsistencies when it comes to rules.

You can bet Max Siegel is filing this one away for when DEI needs a favor.

What makes it worse is that Regan actually dropped a spot in the point standings because of this.

Yep, that race was a joke for all the reasons mentioned above.

I am heading to Charlotte this weekend. I am fully expecting a fiasco.

And don't forget the many empty seats at Talladega to boot.

As for the empty seats...I think that is more a reflection of the economy than popularity of the sport. As far as the rule...I don't think NASCAR would NOT want a first-time winner at the race even though it was the Chase. Talladega is known for first time/one time winners there. Phil Parsons, Bobby Hillin, and Ron Bouchard are examples. I never liked the rule although I understand from a safety perspective.
I read this excerpt and wondered if NASCAR realized Poston said something he SHOULDN'T have said after the truck race last year:
At yesterday's Drivers Meeting, NASCAR reiterated the rule about passing under the yellow line and provided the same information to all drivers and crew chiefs in a hand out, as we've done in past Daytona and Talladega races. The verbatim language is: "This is your warning: race above the yellow line. If, in NASCAR'S judgment, you go below the yellow line to improve your position, you will be black-flagged. If in NASCAR's judgment you force someone below the yellow line (in an effort to stop him from passing you), you may be black-flagged."
"During the last lap of yesterday's race at Talladega Superspeedway the driver of the #01 violated NASCAR policy by driving under the yellow line to improve his position," said NASCAR President Mike Helton. "In NASCAR's opinion he was not forced below the yellow line. NASCAR correctly took immediate action to enforce the policy by penalizing the #01 and scoring the #20 as the race winner."
Helton continued, "Since the end of the race there has been some confusion as to what is allowable during the last lap at Daytona and Talladega. To be clear, as we go forward, there will be no passing under the yellow line at any time during NASCAR races at Daytona or Talladega, period. This includes any passing below the yellow line near the start/finish line on the final lap," said Helton.
For the tires... I think NASCAR rushed the COT into use. They should have done way more tire testing to see how the tires would react...even if that meant running "mock races". It will be interesting to see what Goodyear has to say...although Junior said in an interview that the ARCA race was full of blown tires. They run on Hoosiers...so maybe there was something else causing the blown tires since it was from both series.

They did resurface the track a few years ago, maybe a bad batch of asphalt?

Which would explain the empty seats at all those big football games.
And Mike Helton may need to buy some common sense pills or get his vision corrected, 'cause if he honestly thinks Smoke didn't force Regan below the line, he's either blind or severely lacking in basic intelligence.

It's got nothing to do with intelligence. It's got everything to do with wanting to get a driver who hadn't won this year - and is in the Chase - a win. Imagine the uproar if Tony took the cup (a long shot, I know!) but never won a race.
That would just about invalidate all the reasoning behind the playoff idea, and in turn the awarding of bonus points for a win.
Now, you folks know me. I'm no conspiracy freak, but it's pretty clear when the kid went inside, Smoke drove down hard on his ass and then started chattering on the radio - 'below the line, below the line!'
It ain't rocket science.

Ain't that the truth...
