WASHINGTON (http://www.examiner.com/a-1602243~Veterans_protest_Bush_at_Archives.html?cid =temp-popular) - Five war veterans have begun a 24-hour hunger strike at the National Archives to protest what they call President Bush's violations of the Constitution.
Members of Veterans for Peace climbed a nine-foot fence early Tuesday and are sitting on the edge of a platform at an entrance to the marble building.
They have hung a large banner across three columns that reads "Defend Our Constitution. Arrest Bush/Cheney: War Criminals!"
The veterans say the occupation of Iraq, the unlawful detention of prisoners and other issues are evidence the president and vice president have disregarded the Constitution.

24 hours?
That's just a busy day.

How many veterans have not called for the President's impeachment?
Why are these five veterans' opinions more important than any other veterans?

They didn't say it was 24 consecutive hours. They're fasting for 4 hours...then eating...then fasting another 4 hours...then eating...

While I think a 24 hour hunger strike is about the lamest thing ever, your statement shows an ignorance of news that is almost worse.
News is what happens.
If there were five veterans holding a hunger strike to call for President Bush to be allowed to run for a third term, then that would be news, too.
wx or not

I was going to mention that a 24 hour hunger strike might get them into shape, but they climbed a 9 foot fence? Somebody better bring some White Castles at the end of this vigil.

And if you think the five veterans supporting a third term for the President would get the same amount of news coverage, you are showing an ignorance of how news is covered these days. :)

Maybe in your newsroom, but not in mine.

Is David Blaine one of these veterans, by any chance?

I disagree with your last statement ... war veterans might be expected to want Bush another four years -- that wouldn't really be news.
But five vetereans accusing the commander in chief of the armed forces of war crimes? Yeah ... that's a little different, and it's news.

It was news when France tried to arrest Rumsfeld for war crimes, but only newspapers and TV outside the US bothered to report it. So whatever.

Here's the reference (http://www.alternet.org/story/66425/).
And here's the point: The national media have advertisers to support. They will not broadcast any story that jeopardises the business plans of those advertisers. The Rumsfeld story was news, and it wasn't reported. This story about the veterans is also news, lame though it may be, and it will also go unreported for the reason I just laid out.
Sorry for the confusing tersity of that last post. I was just trying to make everybody happy by not being long-winded.
