Did the Navy know Pearl Harbor was going to be attacked?
Well it would appear so. I know this guy, who knows this guy whos grandfather used to walk past the War Department on warm summer days when the windows were open and he said it was true.
The Navy wanted to get rid of some old World War 1 era battleships (they were too expensive to maintain and they were losing money on them) and also increase their funding from Congress(they were tired of practicing boot camp with broom handles) so they contacted a major Hollywood studio to stage the whole thing. The mock raid started when then Navy Secretary (I think his name was Silverstein) said "pull it". They only used 2 planes made to look like Japanese Zeros and the footage was edited in such a way as to make it appear there were more. The USS Arizona was rigged with explosives because how could you possibly make an explosion that big. The crew was removed from the ship of course and were given new names and identities. Some such as a very young cook named Julia Child went on to become spies for the Allies.
There was some footage shot by a civilian but when he sent it in to be processed what he got back was an old Charlie Chaplin film. The guy disappeared soon after that.:shifty: Now here's the real kicker....It's a little know fact that the civilian guy who filmed the footage of the attack was actually Lorne Greene's father!
