Nice to have the boys back, but it's re-a-a-l-l-l strange to hear the new stuff for free. I'm still worried about Lars impaling me with a drumstick...

I've heard some of the leaks of the album. Concerned that yeah, Rubin finally got them to sound like old Metallica again but that the songs themselves are kinda weak.
In the meantime, maybe I'll listen to some 'Deth on the way to work ::rockon::

I'll have to give a listen later. Last time I heard anything good out of them, it was, "I Disappear," which was under the Post-Burton lineup of James, Lars, Kirk & Jason.

I love me some Metallica, and the new song is decent but there's something missing from it... can't put my finger on what it is.
There's a lot of history to live up to. I'm not one of the purists who's going to say everything after 1989 sucked. I even liked S&M (the symphony record).
For my money, there's no better metal song than this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPuZNXVxxz0) and this one. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G63YItfPDG4&feature=related)
Those songs are 25 years old. It's hard to top that.

It doesn't have that "I don't give a ***** what you think" attidude. That comes with getting older. Don't get me wrong it still KICKS ASS!
BTW I'm blocked to youtube at work. What are the songs?

I agree those are good metal songs...though I would have to say I'm a bigger fan of the Master of Puppets record and Master of Puppets the song.

Fade to Black and For Whom the Bell Tolls.
I'm not sure if it's the attitude of the song that's missing, or if there's a musical element that's not quite there.
And Tater, I agree that as a whole, Master is a better record; the title song's great too. But there's an element to those "Fade" and "Bell" that can still make your hair stand on end 25 years later.

I'm not blocked, but it's a pet peeve of mine to have a youtube link without any idea of what the video is. PLUS, you actually went in and linked you text so you could have easily written out the song's title...some here just cut and paste the link. So I will give you some props for that at least.
I don't think many people realize we have editing tools to do some fancy stuff here on this board.

Go back to youtube and look up "Metallica - Day on the Green 1985" It should bring up "For whom the bell tolls". I was at that show, in the pit, near the front.

Metallica, The Napster killers, Boooo. You know what Metallica, We can go down to our local public library and hear your music for free. That is if the library has it ( Of course burning copies to a CD is not legal, so people, Don't do that!) In fact there are a lot of top selling albums at the library you can listen to for free! So there Metallica! I'm finished now.
Interesting slightly related media fact, Australia doesn't allow it's libraries to carry DVD's. The Movie rental stores would not allow it to happen.

Artists and the record comapnies should spend hundreds of thousands producing records so the whiney little freeloaders can listen for free.

Yeah, God forbid people actually be able to make money for the product they put out.
How many professional reporters out there work for free? None. As a matter of fact, aren't local stations putting up a fight with the cable companies because they are rebroadcasting their airwaves and not paying for it?

Cool, let's go after the libraries next. That way we can have people buy the books, too.

But, I have every Metallica cassette up until Ride the Lightning - so I paid for the songs. . . .why can't I download the digital files? I paid for my rights to those songs, sometimes even twice after the tapes wore out.

10 songs are now out on the website...certainly much more like the Metallica I know and not of the St. Anger type. Plus the songs are at least 5 minutes long, plenty of rocking .
