View Full Version : Airing Kite flyer video

Brain Cramp

I just watched the video of the man slamming into the beach before being lifted up and slammed into a building. Aside from him being an idiot for attaching himself to a kite during a tropical storm, is it/was it appropriate for tv stations to air the footage? No, the man didn't die but he was admitted to the hospital with broken bones, swelling of the brain and other grave injuries that left him in critical condition. He has only now been upgraded to serious.

Would you have run it?

I would have demanded it, Sir!

Absolutely. If, for no other reason, than to prevent another copycat wannabe from becoming another statistic.

Not only would I run it, I would set it to music and add lots of wacky sound effects.

I agree. That video just screams "Slide whistle/crashing garbage cans."

Why wouldn't you run it? We run car crashes, fire, and shooting scenes with dead people - although not visible - in them. We run beatings caught on tape, crashes caught on tape...

Personally, I think news censors its self far to much. I mean, is it really our job to decide what is appropriate for people to see? I thought our job was to show what was happening and allow people to make up their own minds... In a perfect would that is.

They need to better ascertain whether the brain swelling happened before he decided to attach himself to a kite during a tropical storm.

I absolutely run the video to give people an idea of a storm's strength. And this was not even a hurricane.

I run it just because it is great video.
Please.

Not only "Yes" but "HELL YES". Such buffoonery caught on tape should ALWAYS air. REPEATEDLY. There ought to be a law to that effect.

I can't believe someone is actually questioning whether it should be run or not.

Get a spine and grow some stones.

The only thing that would have made the video better is if the idiot was flying throught the air holding a microphone with a trailing IFB.

A Darwin Award application is already in the hands of FedEx.

I was wondering this morning...

I heard on the radio that two deaths have been blamed on Fay in Florida, both of them people who drowned while swimming in rough surf, and it got me thinking about this kite surfer dude. If he were to die, would it really be appropriate to add him to the storm's death toll? I mean, it really isn't Fay's fault that the guy is an idiot. For that matter, the two deaths that have already been attributed to Fay really aren't her fault either. Who in his right mind goes swimming in a tropical storm?

Something tells me that if Fay hadn't come along, these idiots would have found other ridiculous ways to kill themselves, like climbing over the fence to try to hand feed the polar bears at the zoo. Could you really blame the polar bear because hey, free meat?

Are you serious?

This storm has been slowly winding its way to Florida from Cuba.

If you got caught by the storm unawares, I don't think "genius" is gonna figure prominently on your headstone.

Shades of idiocy.

That's what I'm saying. People are blaming the deaths on the storm. I'm blaming the deaths on stupidity. I don't think it's appropriate to blame the storm for the deaths of people who swim or kite surf in it. If a guy fell and died while trying to scale the Sears Tower, you wouldn't blame the building. If someone jumps from the Golden Gate Bridge, you wouldn't blame that structure. We don't hear about a "death toll for the Golden Gate."

Somebody dies trying to ride out the storm in his home? Maybe. But not when they're trying to ride the wind or currents 'cause it sounds like fun.

You can find it on "Liveleak.com" along with other videos that the news stations are too shy to air. Check out some of the apache helicopter videos taking out insurgents. COOL Stuff.
Here's a recent one. (By the way, those white spots are hot meat)

Actually, it might just encourage other shmucks to try something 'better'. Some obviously covet the "Darwin award".
