Someone should remind Senator McCain that if he lays down with dogs, he is liable to wake up with fleas (http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5hn3yv73cyhSr6UB-AwFOwfOAOoNAD92L2S800)...anyone remember Jack Abramoff?

ATLANTA -- Ralph Reed, once one of the leading strategists in the Republican Party, found himself Monday night persona non grata at a fundraiser hosted by his party's presumptive presidential nominee.

Reed had sent an e-mail last week encouraging allies to join him at fundraiser for John McCain here, but by the time the senator from Arizona arrived in Atlanta, it was clear Reed was not attending the event. The Democratic National Committee had spent several days blasting McCain for allowing Reed to be involed in the fundraiser because of Reed's connections to disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

McCain aides said Reed had never been involved in putting together the fundraiser, but they would not say if they told Reed not to attend the event.

Reed did not return a phone call seeking comment.

Reed, who had once been executive director of the Christian Coalition and was an adviser to the Bush 2004 campaign, has become a controversial figure in the party because of his connections to Abramoff. While Reed was never accused of a crime, e-mails released during the investigation of Abramoff's work showed close connections between the two men as they joined together to oppose the construction of some Indian gaming casinos in the South. Abramoff wanted to prevent new casinos from being built that would compete with the ones already established by some of the tribes that had hired him.

Much of the Abramoff investigation was conducted by the Indian Affairs Committee that was run at the time by McCain, and Reed and the Arizona senator are not known to be close.

McCain, who raised about $1.75 million at the event, did refer to Reed in his remarks here.

And because of this...we should vote for Obama.

Or Bart Roberts. Wait, no. That's not his name. The Libertarian guy, right Kace?

Heh.

If only people would vote for Barr, then they'd realize most of these things that represent nothing more than a meaningless back and forth among the 2-partiers is a waste.

Show me a politician who can't be linked to anyone.

What about politicians that can't be linked to Ralph Reed? :)

In Obama's case, they can be linked to Tony Rezko. ;)

Six Degrees of Ralph Reed?

Yeah, but wouldn't that be more appropriate for a Tony Rezko thread?

Probably. Rezko was mentioned in the article linked. But if we started one, you well know the Obama fans would mention Ralph Reed, Jack Abramoff or someone else. If that happens, I expect you to speak up, of course. :)

I would expect me to as well, if they suddenly just threw in a reference to Reed or Abramoff out of nowhere. Then again, with the Obama fans, a lot of that is usually ignored in favor of, "I believe in him...change OMG!!!" and so on.

Rezko was mentioned in the linked article, so it wasn't just thrown "out of nowhere."

Six degrees of investigation.

Yes, as a result of a deflection based quote by someone else in the article...which also mentions Obama not being implicated in some stuff concerning Rezko.

So...here's what we need. We need someone to start a thread about Rezko, citing an article about Rezko being linked to Obama, where an Obama supporter deflects by talking about McCain and Reed. And when other posters start to talk more about the Obama/Rezko connection being whatever it is, we will then need someone to give a, "What about McCain/Reed," related line.

At which point, I can chime in about how there's already a thread about that.

So...who would like to start the thread with said article ready?

Heh. Every time I see Ralph Reed's name I think of the two young female producers who used to work at 400 N. Cap. Whenever he was at the La Colline bar while they were partaking in happy hour these two would start making out. I laughed.

Were they making funny noises while making out?

Ralph Reed likely doesn't mind gay people at all.

Like most Republican political minds, he just uses hatred of gay people to help his candidates get elected.

Remember how Ralph Reed was out there in 2004, demanding Americans amend the Constitution so gay people couldn't get hitched.

How is that whole "gay people can't get married" AMENDMENT TO THE FRIGGIN CONSTITUTION going, Bush voters?

Thought so. Reed doesn't mind gay people. He simply uses homophobia to divide, conquer.
