I thought Obama was the one that said this election wouldn't be about race? Kind of a strange accusation from the "unifier" candidate.

That strategy won't work because McCain doesn't look like the presidents on our money, either. All the presidents on our money are kinda green.

Well, technically, there's only one president on all those dollar bills .. the same one on each bill.

I think Obama's quote reflects his belief that Republican operatives will try to use racial fearmongering to scare voters out of voting for him.

I don't know. Is McCain a racist, though? Maybe he was just trying to be funny back in 2000:
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2000/02/18/MN32194.DTL

"I hate the gooks," McCain said yesterday in response to a question from reporters aboard his campaign bus. "I will hate them as long as I live."

Maybe because of where I live and how I grew up and who my friends were. Welcome to the United States of America. You don't know me, a-hole. I dare you (if in fact you are white as I imagine) to go up to a random African-American and call them, "uppity" - see what happens. Obviously if this is news to you, you're just an ignorant, sheltered little prick. Thought so.

If I "fail" a test of your twisted logic, then by all means, I fail.

How does this quote not describe exactly what Obama has been going through during this election?

Like I said in another thread, "Gay sex, black liberation, Muslim, went to a madrasa, won't say the pledge, whitey, flag pins and now Hitler." Add to that people calling him "B. Hussein Obama" and you've got exactly what he's talking about.

I'm a black man who grew up in the so-called ghetto. You could say that I'm one of those who picked himself up by the bootstraps, and "made it out" of the slums through hard work.

Being called uppity is a VERY racist, derogatory thing. It goes back to Jim Crow days. Blacks who didn't "know their place", or carried themselves with dignity and confidence were considered uppity by whites.

Being called uppity is a VERY racist, derogatory thing.

It doesn't have to be.

When you take offense to a word because a "racist" (as you perceive it) uses it, you give that "racist" power over you. However, if you just shrug your shoulders and walk off without taking offense to it just because of your race, you are the one empowered by that action, not them. Who really gives a damn about what some ignorant confederate flag waving retard spouts off with anyway? You'll probably make more money on accident than they ever will on purpose. For starters, as evidenced by your post, you have a JOB. That's already more than most "white supremacists" have going for them. You shouldn't be offended by the likes of them. You should feel sorry for their families instead - they have to live with those idiots. Yeesh.

But I digress.. Let me get to the point.

It's my casual observation that the ones screaming the loudest about racism are among it's biggest perpetrators and continue to perpetuate the problem. "Uppity" shouldn't be a racist word any moreso than any other insult is. Until that holds true in YOUR mind, you my friend, are the proverbial pot calling the kettle... well, you know the rest.

Just something to think about. Carry on...

Jesus, isn't this a myopic view of the world. You'd never tell a Jew, "The swastika is only offensive if you get offended..."

You're right, "uppity" shouldn't be a racist word, but it is because people dumber than us decided to use it in a derogatory fashion. It'd be great if "sticks and stones" were true, but named do hurt people.
