View Full Version : Who here NEVER drinks coffee?

With the Starbucks making news, and a WashPost article this week about a coffee store customer posting a vulgarity laced tirade about an iced espresso on the web, only to be upstage by the coffee store owner's own angry posts, I got to thinking... I am DAMN GLAD I never liked coffee.
My folks tried to force me to drink it when I was a kid because a Doctor said it would help calm me down. (I was hyperactive, imagine that?) I hated it and never drank it again.
So now I don't have to pay $4.00 a cup at Starbucks, I don't have to make a fresh pot when the coffee at work runs out. I don't have to get coffee for Prima Donna anchors before their shows. (One taste of this rookie's idea of coffee and cream and Anchordude decided to ask someone else).
But there aren't many of us... my office goes through a ton of the stuff... they have at least four coffee makers. (they also have tea and hot chocolate, but I hate tea too and the chocolate is bad for me).
I do understand the need some mornings for a caffeine jolt. About twice a week I'll have a Coke Zero or Diet Coke.
So if you are free of the java jones, how do you wake up? What's your morning substance of choice.

I've never had coffee - ever. Well .. maybe a sip from my parents cup when I was younger. After all, there has to be a reason for me to think I don't like it. If I were asked to make a pot of coffee I wouldn't know how. In fact, when I was a mere marketing assistant at my first station I think I was asked to make coffee. I did as asked - and it must not have turned out well at all because they never asked me to make it again. Hee hee.
I am addicted to Diet Coke - however - as my source of caffeine. Also, Crystal Light Metabolism is now caffeinated as well.
FYI - chocolate is not bad for you. It's all the butter, sugar and cream in chocolate candy that is bad for you.

I Used to drink a ton of it....8 - 10 a day....now I'm down to about 2 or 3, and usually after the first, I switch to Caffeine Free.
I'm amazed at the parents that let their kids drink Coffee at such an early age....I remember when I was in High School occasionaly some Senior would drink coffee and we'd look at them weird....now, if you don't have a Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks in your hand, you would look out of place.

I've been drinking Diet Coke since high school (low sodium/protein necessity for me) and that's been my preference ever since.
I've gotten better to where I only drink 2, maybe 3 a day at the very most. I used to be pretty bad (not as bad as milemarker0, though), but now I drink water, milk and gatorade/G2 inbetween to help keep me from having too many.
Of course, it doesn't help that I have a microfridge in my office just big enough to fit 4 cans of soda. :shifty:
Like HushHush, I used to sneak sips of my Mom's coffee when I was younger, but that was it. Not sure why I did it, though. LOL.
Strangely enough, too, for a while in college, I worked in the cafe at a Barnes & Noble...making coffee drinks all shift long, yet I never had the urge to try any.
Also, I used to think my Aunt was weird, when I was younger, with how she would drink Coke Classic with every meal (including breakfast). Of course, once I got into college, I then understood.

I used to drink coffee in the morning, and would again if I could, but I avoid caffeine now. I'll occasionally have an irregular heart rhythm, so avoiding caffeine is a must. Therefore, I also can't have other drinks with caffeine, like Coke, which I love. Just the caffeine-free Coke now. I don't know if it's psychological, but I swear I can tell a slight difference in the taste.
In fact, the first time I ever had the arrhythmia was on a work day when I had had probably 8 Cokes throughout the day and evening, and then my heart started beating very fast and very erratically.
I like coffee with lots of sugar and some cream, but don't like it black. Now I only drink one mug of decaf in the morning when it's cool/cold outside.

A couple cups of fresh brewed then iced green tea.
On the weekend I have green sun tea.
Mmmmmm, smooth.
If I am really dragging in the afternoon I might have a cup of coffee with a lot of cream to kill the taste.
But, that is rare.
I can't understand how people pay two or three dollars for an energy drink.
What a waste of money for a caffiened-up soda.

No coffee, no tea and not a big fan of hot chocolate either.
For me it's the breakfast of champions every morning; a big RC and a moon pie.
Just kidding, OJ or V8 to start the day coupled with far too many diet cokes through the day interspersed with waters.

Never coffee...can't stand the taste of it. My roommate drinks it religiously, and I kind of like the smell of it brewing, but that's it.

Not a big fan of coffee. Never understood the people who claim they can't start their day without it. Never needed it to get me going. At what point in your life do you suddenly need coffee? To me it seems like a habit and caffine addiction. On the few days where I don't get a good night sleep, need to get up at 0 dark 30 or just dragging, I'll have a mountain dew. Otherwise I don't touch that either. The trick in college was Mountain Dew and a Snickers bar. That'll get your heart racing.
I have been guilty sometimes of drinking too much Coke or Pepsi but some things only taste good with a soda. Pizza and milk? Yuck.
Sometimes in the winter I'll have a Chi tea or a French Vanilla Cappuccuino from the local gas station. I've tried a Cappuccino once at Starbucks to see what the hype was and was not impressed. Another time I tried their Chi tea also. Again not impressed. Tasted washed out and brewed through a sock.

Ditto...half a cup in the morning to get me going. I MIGHT grab a cup while I'm waiting for a bunch of effects to render or something...but other than that it's water in my coffee cup.
My favorite beverage of choice is ice-cold 2% milk but I feel like a little kid if I order it at a restaurant. So I just tell the waiter it's for my 13 month-old...

I go into work at 4 am and brew a little pot of coffee for myself. My pot makes 20 ounces which goes into a travel mug with some Kroger's Cinnammon Creme non-dairy creamer. No sugar. On weekends I go to a coffee/bagel place and put skim milk in my coffee. Skim milk is my choice but sometimes I'll splurge and add real cream or Half & Half. I never drink coffee at any other time of day unless I order dessert at a fancy restaurant, then I'll order decaf. I can't drink anything with caffeine after 4 pm and expect to get to sleep. I live in the south but don't like sweet tea. (I have to whisper that because it's practically a mortal sin to not like sweet tea here). It's just too darn SWEET! I also drink caffeine-free Diet Coke or diet ginger ale as my favorite refreshing drinks.

Drank hot chocolate all thru college and didn't become a coffee drinker until I was 23. Drank way too much of the stuff during my morning radio years. Still average a cup a day.
Rarely drink Coke or Pepsi anymore. Maybe once a month.
I was never much of a drinker. I average one beer or glass of wine in a week.
We bought a Magic Bullet a couple of years ago and am now addicted to smoothies. Frozen fruit, half a banana, yogurt, apple sauce, flax oil, cranberry juice, water and protein powder. I'll make one or two of those a day.

It depends on what you're afraid of. If you're a diabetic - Diet Soda is your only option other than not drinking soda at all.
There is a good deal more POTASSIUM in Diet soda, and then there's always a concern with Asparateme in diet sodas because there are no studies yet on the long term effects of this chemical.
I can say - after three days of heavily drinking Diet Coke Plus (http://www.dietcoke.com/) {32 - 64 ounces a day} - I awoke the morning of day 4 with a pulse of 177 and blood pressure of 144/90. When they took a 2D echo of my heart it showed an enlargement. Note that Coca-Cola refuses to state the amount of caffeine in this product and withholds the nutritional information from their web site.
A year later ... and down to 16 oz of diet coke a day .. I have no problems at all with my heart. The key people is moderation!

Splenda-enhanced drinks, such as Diet Coke with Splenda, Pepsi One, and Diet Rite all lack aspertame. However, only the Diet Rite leaves out the caffeine. Pepsi One actually has MORE caffeine than Pepsi!
