Question about DVD Labels...

Hi everyone...

Can you put regular mailing labels on DVDs when you're sending them out? Will they still work? Or do I have to buy those expensive DVD labels?

I'm too cheap and too chicken to try this. Anyone know for sure?

I wouldn't use mailing labels...

I'm against any type of labels actually on the disc because they can possibly throw the weight off and cause playback problems. Using the full-face stick-on labels are simply asking for trouble as well.

Having said that... you can get away on the cheap by using the thin, one-line labels with those inexpensive little label-maker thingys... found in the office supply sections (WalMart, etc.). I have one made by Brother. Keep it as small as you can... and, with or without print, attach a second one of the same size and weight to the disc opposite of the first one... that will help balance the disc.

Another option... find someone you know who has a program to print a full-face "printable" disc... That would certainly look best... buy 'em some beer or something.

Given the current climate in the Tee Vee industry right now... I don't think the ND or whomever is going to be too concerned about how it looks, as long as your info is on it and it works.

how inexpensive? which "label-makey" things are you talking about?

Go with the full face sticky label. I have ones from Memorex. I think I paid $20 for 120 labels at Office Depot. On the Memorex website, you can download templates that make it pretty idiot-proof.

These labels sure make my paid productions look a ton better and I have never had a DVD that wouldn't play because of the label.

Thanks for the advice. Did you buy that little device at the office store that helps you line the label up with the DVD? I'm debating over whether I need one of those too....

No, I just carefully put them on by hand. . . . . watch the hole in the middle and line it up. . . if u mess up it cost you maybe $1.00 in the trash. Once you have done it a couple of times, you figure it out - use your thumbs first, gently.

Get one of those plastic things that line up the label for you. It's possible you put a label on by hand, try it on your system at home and it works, but it doesn't work on the NDs. You'd never know.
