Just got laid off for the first time. This sucks.... PLUS - I haven't produced in a while so I don't have a tape. Any ideas about how to get an old show? Like perhaps 3-6 months old?
Thanks.

If you haven't produced in a while, what were you doing that you just got laid off from?
Anyway, pray you didn't burn any bridges with your former co-workers and see if they can get you some copies from the station archives (if the station keeps archives).
P.S. Odd Todd's the BOMB! (Hence my avatar)

That video was hilarious! Chuckle.
Well, for the past 6 months I've been a copy editor, writer, fill-in type who often wondered, what the hell am I doing here?
The show I had been producing got sucked up by the network!
Sigh.

If you liked it, there are five more Laid Off cartoons where that came from (http://www.oddtodd.com/cartoons.html), plus plenty of other Odd Todd cartoons with varying themes. Now that you've been laid off, you have plenty of time to watch them.

So are you thinking that means you want to leave news? Then ya probably don't need the tape...just writing samples (in case you go into PR or something).

if it was a strict layoff, not a firing, and you left on good terms, the management shouldn't have a problem with you coming in to to dub off some old shows.
if they balk, then hopefully you have a friend there who'll help.

I am so sorry. The state of the TV news business STINKS!!! The worst part is the innocent victims that lose jobs.....

That little cartoon is the same way my life has been since I got laid off six, (count them) SIX days ago.

Hell, they'll probably let you come in and produce a new show if you'll do it for free.

It's not just TV. My workplace was hit with a major reorganization yesterday which left six terrific people jobless. And it was really nice of the CEO to call in for the staff meeting from his vacation out of the country... People found out who was gone by seeing whose names were not on the new org chart, which is how I found out I have a new boss and changed (not for the better) responsibilities.
My best to those of you who recently lost your jobs. Many of us here have had that happen and survived. You will, too -- we wish you peace and a bright future.

So when you get into PR or marketing and get a big budget to produce a marketing video...you will want to hire the shooters from the station...just remember...they have jobs...freelancers do not. Hire a freelancer. They do better work because they have to. There is no second chance for a freelancer.

Spike the video was awesome.
My advice is to go to the unemployment office and apply for your unemployment, and then apply for food stamps and anything else that is free, you might get to take some college classes for free.
Meanwhile, I think that management at your station will let you get some of your old shows on tape, that is if you were really laid off and not fired.
