I'm just starting to clue in to this 'LinkedIn' thing. But I like what I've seen and have already made contact with some former colleagues.
Would be curious to hear what any of you other members think of it. Likes, dislikes, worthiness, etc.
Also, if you are a member and wish to connect, my profile name is Randall Steinman. Please identify yourself to me as a MediaLiner, in case I don't recognize your name. (You don't even have to disclose your ML profile name if you don't want to.)

I've accepted a few friends' invitations.
but I still have no idea what it is or what I (or they) am supposed to be getting out of it.

It's actually pretty cool.
Think Facebook, only exclusively for professional networking.

REALLY? Huh, I kept deleting those messages. I thought they were spam. Ooops.

I got sucked into Linkedin because I kept getting all those messages and it was easier to hit 'accept', but I agree with Adam & D. Drew, I have no idea how it works and never use it. Much prefer Facebook. Tons of professional contacts on there, (but it too is starting to get annoying with all the stupid 'games').

That's what's nice about LinkedIn. It's strictly business. And it's nice to have a social networking site that keeps your personal life apart from your professional.

I've recently joined the LinkedIn movement. One thing I've found that I like is you can add recommendations to someone's profile, so it's like listing specific references along with your resume.

Got attached through an adjunct professor friend of mine I've known since our undergrad days. It's a great professional networking site.

Are you supposed to put your resume and what not on there or something?

Linkedin is just another way of proving to myself how few friends I really have

Poor Obewon...you can link with me if it'll make you happier.
I've reconnected with friends and colleagues. I stay away from Facebook.

No, it's more like a professional profile. Instead of listing your interests, like you would on Facebook, you list your career achievements and background, then link up with old classmates, coworkers, etc. None of the Facebook group stuff, all work related. Then people can write recommendations for you, which are then attached to your profile.

I was one of your first LinkedIn connections. I like to know who I'm beating at fantasy baseball.

I'm on LinkedIn.
It's different because it's a site that allows you to connect/re-connect with people...and send messages...and post your...hey, it IS just like Facebook.
But seriously, though, has anyone here actually gotten a job from the postings and "recommendations" on that site? I mean, on one you post your interests, on the other you post your past/current jobs. Big whoop. No real difference.

So, like Facebook, people can make things up and no one knows if they are telling the truth or not.
The moment I saw Rosenblum was a member I knew all I needed to know about it.
No thanks.

No but I did go from a dead end job in a sweatshop newsroom to an amazing life of luxury and wealth just by placing tiny ads in newspapers and magazines in my spare time...

Thanks to all those for the invites.
