Do you have a lot of people in your shop taking smoke breaks? I've asked ou HR person at corporate to look for ways to eliminate these. First, its bad for their health. Second, it takes a way from productivity. I've tried talking to these smokers but they just get all sarcastic. I figure if you've got time to smoke you've got time to write a vo or someting. Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Is it any worse than taking time away from your workday to create an endless stream of stupid threads? I mean, if you were even a tiny bit clever, I wouldn't have a problem ... but you're mostly just an idiot. Tell Shak I said "hi" ...

Don't mess with the smokers. They'll sneak intoyour house one night and steal all your fresh air and replace it with "second hand smoke".

Do like we're about to do and ban all smoking on the premises. Basically, it means, "If you need me, I'll be down the block".

I think we need to know if the workers in question are going to walk a mile for a camel. Or are they going to make like Mr. Chesterfield and satisfy?
I suppose she'll say that it all depends on what you're packing -- regular or king-size.
When she pulls out his Jim Beam, to her suprise, it may be every bit as hard as his Canadian Club.

Give everyone laptops and tiny cameras, and send them into the field to OMB. They can smoke all they want WHILE working, plus your station can save money by leasing the now unused cubicle space. Problem solved.

Oh my, Egbert, you asked HR to look into it. My seven year old would call you a tattle tale, and remind everyone that nobody likes a tattle tale. If your not the boss, who the hell are you to complain about their productivity, except a whinny little co-worker. News Director and HR directors both LOVE that guy. How do you know that the smokers aren't pounding out 75% of the newscast why you are up complaining to HR. Maybe your just trying to make yourself look good, maybe you should just take 5 for yourself and walk around the parking lot. Or maybe you should get some counciling to fix your own problems..... worry about yourself.
I really hope all the smokers at your shop quit, and take up chewing tobacco. That way they can set the spit cup right next to your keyboard and work all day long, only slowing down to refresh their chaw!

Heck.. thats a city wide thing here in Louisville. City wide smoking ban. No smoking within 50 feet of a business. Except Churchill Downs.. thats the exception.

But at my shop, I can walk about fifty feet from the building and smoke, as there are no businesses around ours.

Dude, we'll talk about time wasted by other people's smoke breaks after we discuss the time YOU waste taking your jerk off breaks.

Had something planned to post, but felt strangely -- soiled -- in proximity...

I am sure the only reason why people smoke at your station is because they need to lower their voices. In fact, the sole reason for doing this is so their voices sound better when they speak during your newscasts.
Maybe you should call them on their cell phones the next time they are out back smoking to thank them for their hard work & the extra effort they are taking to making your shows better.

How about you mind your business and go back to work. If people want to smoke, that's their business. Your first point (its bad for their health) why is that your concern? You don't think they know smoking is bad for you?
What's next? You took a pen from the newsroom home, I'm telling!! Nanna Nanna Boo Boo!!!
grow up.

For Chrissakes, people! For those who take this thread for what it's worth, bravo! For those who respond as if this poster were serious, I say, Captain D's needs employees!

Sounds like smokes could be a tax write-off!!

I'm getting a petition started banning "farting" in the workplace. I am offended by "second hand wind". I also despise people that take 15 minute "fart breaks" on company time.

It's not that big a deal to me but smoking is horrible.
