Need a refresher here... but what's policy when showing highlights of live televised sports events?

Taken for granted the "freedom" to roll on MLB, NBA, NFL, NASCAR etc broadcast and run highlights on sportscast with quick courtesey graphic in the corner. I'm pretty sure my station doesn't send out notes to the various leagues "for expressed written permission."

Is any live sports broadcast(network or local) pretty much available for nightly highlights? Of course I'd give courtesy.

Asking because want to show highlights from the CBS EliteXC this Saturday... and also World Extreme Cagefighting on Sunday on Versus(there are local fighters involved.) Do I have to get "permission" from them? Or can I just pop highlights w/ courtesy off the broadcast like all the other televised sports events?

anything that's on regular TV (not pay per view), you should be able to record and use with a courtesy..... but NOT before it's over..

(although why would you want to?)
a lot of guys like to show in-progress hilites... which to me is just a way of telling the viewer there might be something better on another channel.

yeah, it would be after the broadcast is over. It's funny though, I see local stations air "partials" cuz game is still going on at the other channel. Except of course for big things like Daytona 500, Super Bowl, any NFL game.
