The Cubs just picked up Edmonds to carry water for Carlos Zambrano, and to shine his shoes.

He'll shag a few fly balls in the outfield for the privilage.

What's funny about it is the Cardinals are paying him two million dollars this year to do it.

And that's why the Cardinals won't be in the WS this year. They'll be watching the Cubs.

when a guy's hitting .178 for a club that's 11 games out, and is last in the majors in runs, gets benched then RELEASED by that team, then walks right into the starting lineup of a new team.... I'd have my doubts about that new team.

That's what I love about arguing with Hack Wilson Fan: I don't even have to prove him wrong. He always puts his own foot in his own mouth. (Then again, would I expect anything less from a Cubs fan?)

Cubs to pay Edmonds $290,000; Padres to pay remainding $8 million (http://www.cbc.ca/sports/baseball/story/2008/05/15/mlb-cubs-edmonds.html)

Mark my words: Edmonds will suck. And the Cardinals won't have to pay him a dime to do it.

And the Cardinals won't have to pay him a dime to do it.

Wrong again, like the shipwrecked fool you are, Gilligan.

The Cardinals must pay San Diego $2 million who then must pay Jim Edmonds as part of the trade negotiation (http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5hNjJRQI6XlnSS3PJZznELCijoT5AD90LRN180)with San Diego.

Edmonds had an $8 million salary this year, which is being mostly paid by San Diego. The Padres received $2 million from the St. Louis Cardinals when they acquired Edmonds on Dec. 15 for minor league third baseman David Freese. Chicago will pay Edmonds a prorated share of the $390,000 minimum, which comes to about $290,000.

So the Cards are paying Edmonds 2 million dollars this year for Edmonds to clean the shoes of Carlos Zambrano and fetch his water.

Edmonds, La Russa still trade insults as ex-Cardinal gets ovation

Jim Edmonds tips his cap to cheering fans in St. Louis.

By Paul Sullivan | Tribune staff reporter (http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-080704-jim-edmonds-tony-la-russa-cubs-cards,1,4018273.story)

ST. LOUIS - Jim Edmonds spent his first few weeks as a Cub asking the media to stop referring to him as a former Cardinal, hoping Cubs fans would accept him for who he is, not for the rival player he was.

But when Tony La Russa shot back in an interview with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, saying Cardinals fans should "honor his request [and] ignore the fact that he was ever here," Edmonds ripped his former manager for comments he called "the most asinine I've ever heard."

The battle of egos took place Friday at Busch Stadium, putting a little extra spice into a rivalry that doesn't need much hype.

Edmonds received a big ovation when he came to the plate in the second inning, and he tipped his cap to the fans in turn.

But the strained relationship between Edmonds and La Russa may be damaged permanently after the two traded barbs through the media. It all began when La Russa told the Post-Dispatch he was disturbed by Edmonds' comments to Chicago reporters that he wanted to be accepted as a Cub, asking them to stop associating him with the Cardinals.

"I think we ought to follow his lead," La Russa said. "His quote was roughly, within a couple of words, 'I've had enough of people asking me about the Cardinals. I'm a Cub now.'

"So I would treat him like he never played here. I would wait until the end of his career and I would remember he was a Cardinal. I would ignore the fact that he was ever here [for now] because that's what he wants. I would honor his request. Forget the Cardinal days until his career is over."

In two separate group interviews, Edmonds called La Russa's comments "asinine" and "ridiculous," and at one point called him a derogatory name.

So what was their relationship really like?

"It has been great," Edmonds said. "It always has been great. He gets a little excited when this series goes on, and I know the media takes its toll on him, so I'm sure he got misinformed over something he heard about me not wanting to be part of this organization.

"In the history of baseball, I don't know if I ever heard that before, so I don't know how anybody would put that with my name. It's disappointing that someone would throw those accusations out there."

Edmonds pointed to a Chicago reporter and insisted he could verify that Edmonds never had said anything about "not wanting to be a Cardinal." But on several occasions, Edmonds had chided the media for bringing up his past with St. Louis, even saying they tried to "ruin" him with Cubs fans with constant references to his former team.

La Russa apparently saw several of Edmonds' comments and answered back. The two did not speak on the field before Friday's game, though Edmonds joked he would "punch him in the mouth" if La Russa ignored him and La Russa told reporters he would shake his hand if they met.

"I think he's just trying to stir it up," Edmonds said.

The Cubs won't be in the world series because of the huge choke they always perform in big games...like the one I was at last night...where they were up 4-2 in the 9th.
The Cubs fans who were stinking up Busch Stadium were whooping and hollering and circle jerking and...then it happened...they remembered they were fans of the Cubs!!!!

Here's a team who had a great game...kinda... and then BLOWS IT IN THE 9TH INNING IN FRONT OF A RECORD CROWD AT BUSCH STADIUM!!! 3 RUNS IN THE 9TH TO WIN!!!

I love certain things in life:
my wife and children,
steak, rare
sushi,
the Red Sox
and when the Cubs lose!!!! When they lose to the Cards, I put that right below my wife and kids.

What a great game....fantastic game...better than a playoff game!!!! CUBS SUCK!! CUBS SUCK!!!!!

PS: on Jim Edmonds...the class of St. Louis fans was shown when they cheered him on Friday and Saturday when he came to bat. That's class...something Chicago-jackasses don't have.

Hanging a slider to a .255 hitter on HGH aint exactly choking.
Cubs beat the Cardinals two out of three. That aint exactly choking.
You need a new dictionary, or better comprehension. Or a muzzle.

And the cheering fans? They were cheering because Edmonds has been hitting very well as of late, thanks to the tips from Carlos Zambrano.

I'm not following your logic here.

You say you love the Red Sox, so I'm assuming you're a Boston fan first.

Then you say when the Cubs lose to the Cardinals, that ranks above your team?

I would think that you would like the Yankees or Rays losing better than the Cubs losing.

Or maybe you don't understand the baseball standings system.

Wish I'd known you were at the game CKMD...could have hooked up for a cold one. I was there both Friday and Saturday. I much more enjoyed Friday night's result.

As for the "class" I witnessed St. Louis, beyond the tip of the cap ovation:

Friday night ...sat next to an 80-year-old longtime season ticket holder, had a good chat about the rivalry over the years. Saturday sat next to a married couple: wife a cards fan, husband cub fan. They offered many good laughs about the major obstacles in their marriage, like Albert Pujols and Carlos Zambrano.

There were seemingly equal amounts of Cub and Cardinal fans in my immediate area both Friday and Saturday. At the end of both games, When the cheering settled, there was a good amount of hand-shaking, high fives, wishes of good luck (but not TOO much luck), take care, and nice to meet you between fans in both blue and red. It was pretty cool, and I found the rivalry to be quite civil and good-natured.

Sorry you didn't discover the same level of sportsmanship!

Jim Edmonds downplays heroics vs. old team
But ex-Cardinal can't just forget his origins
By Paul Sullivan | Chicago Tribune reporter (http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/chi-09-cubs-brite-chicagoaug09,0,7661051.story)

During a St. Louis-Milwaukee telecast a couple of weeks ago, Cardinals analyst Al Hrabosky told viewers he had just received a text message from Jim Edmonds informing him the Cubs were heavily scouting the Cardinals-Brewers series.

As much as Edmonds would like for everyone in Chicago to forget about his ties to St. Louis, he can't forget the friends and teammates he spent so much time with during the best years of his life. That's why it would seem likely that games like Friday's, when he hit two home runs and made a diving catch against his old team, would be that much more special.

"No, not at all," Edmonds said. "This is just another game as far as the standings are concerned. It's a little odd to play against a group of individuals you've been so close to for so long. It's like playing in the back yard with your family. But you have got to separate and move on."

"How many home runs has he hit here?" manager Lou Piniella said. "Fourteen? That's pretty impressive. I tip my cap. He's hitting the ball with some power for us and he's making some nice plays out in center field.

"He has fit in very well with the chemistry of this team."

Edmonds had a rough reception when he came to Chicago in May and blamed reporters for continually referring to him as a former Cardinal.

But his relationship with Cubs fans is at an all-time high, as evidenced by a curtain call after his second home run Friday.

"Special," he said. "Any time you get one it's special, especially your first one in a different city, being in Chicago. Just having fun and enjoying the game again. I appreciate everything that I have in front of me now."

Complaints about the media aside, Edmonds appears to understand Cub fans' early reluctance to embrace a former Cardinals star.

"Well, like I said, thanks to you guys, it made it tough at the beginning," he said. "Now, looking back on it, that's probably the way it should be. They're so passionate here about the game, and they're passionate in St. Louis.

"I've gotten the opportunity to play in two of the best baseball cities in the NL, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. It has been quite a ride."
