First, I'm sick of some of these writers tagging every supposed scandal with the term "Gate"...(spygate, anklegate(brady during superbowl), steroidgate) Shows lack of creativity and laziness....
Second and actually my main point... Arlen Specter needs to move on with his life! For gods sake! The tapes have been exposed, it has been noted that people will get fines or penalties if they video tape(or get caught), but to try to put a Senate Committee on this?!?!?!?! :frustrated:
Aren't there better things our tax dollars can pay for?! Its not like the steroids thing in baseball, it isn't an illegal substance being used like steroids. Yes its against the rules to video tape the signals, it isn't a national crime... let the sports police themselves when it comes to the rules of that sport...they enforce the penalties...when it comes to illegal substances by all means please step in... But Arlen Specter needs to get off his soapbox and give it a rest....:moon:
OK rant over...as you were.

I believe karma was fulfilled when they lost the Super Bowl.

I've never understood what the big deal is.
every team's coaches are right out there on the sideline, giving signals, in plain view of anyone who wants to watch.
where was the "spy" part of this?

Yes, it's "only a game," however, it is a BILLION dollar league.
Goodell's destroying of the tape also destroyed his credibility and forever cast a shadow on the NFL.
I'm with Spector. A full investigation and the resignation of Goodell are in order.
People need to know that the NFL's games have integrity. The hard-working players should not be working under the doubt of fans.

I'll agree that it's long past due to put "gate" to rest for any alleged scandal.

Why does the government have any right to try and police the NFL? They didn't break any laws... Rules of their game were broken, sure, but does it impact the government when they do this? So are you saying the FCC has a right to fire someone at a locally owned and operated TV station because they did something that was against company policy? Give me a good reason why the government has any right to get involved here? Did the NFL embezzle money? Not pay taxes? Money or the size of the business has nothing to do with the government getting invloved here.
The only reason this is so blown proportion is because of "fans" in high places like Arlen Spectre.
The integrity of the NFL hasn't been compromised as drastically as you seem to think, but its people like Arlen Spectre and yourself who can't move forward. It still takes the players to play the game and be in the right position, and other coaches beside Belichick were taping. He just got caught. Now that it is exposed, penalties are being enforced...
The reporting of taped calls has gone on for years and years before Goodell took his position, he's the only commissioner that took ANY action! He gave a penalty that he saw fit for rules infractions that happened before he was in. Do you think the tapes would have shown more? If they did don't you think the penatly would have been worse?
MLB has certainly lost some of its integrity with all of the players that cheated and used performance enhancing drugs...WHICH WERE ILLEGAL and thats why the government stepped in.. They have no leg to stand on when it comes to getting involved with this matter and the NFL...
