I'm certain that some are still performing at high levels in todays "sports doesn't matter" thought process (which I HIGHLY disagree with).

Which shops are finding new, non-traditional ways of presenting daily sportscasts? Who is aggressively covering local/regional college sports?

Channel 6 in Wilmington's been pretty good with the local sports scene for some time. During High School football season, they go crazy.

WTVO in Rockford has a great sports department, primarily because of their SD, Scott Leber. This guy has been there for 18 years, and continues to put the best product on the air.

I consider myself fortunate to have learned from him and I'm pretty sure that anyone else who has either worked for him or with him would agree.

A class act all the way around.

KING-TV in Seattle. It's the only station there doing anything that warrants respectability in that market. (The CBS doesn't even have a sportscast on weekdays anymore.. they're a Cox station BTW)

KING does a weekly Prep Sports show along with 2 long segs on prep football nights and state basketball nights, a Seahawks show during the Season, and a nightly half hour show on their indie station/cable affiliate in the same building. For a station in a top 20 market, where many aren't doing a lot, KING still stands out well.

Top Sports Shops.

WTVO does a fine job, I would say that others in that market have outshined them at times, but due to heavy turnover that shop is no longer the best.

ABC 7 in Chicago does top flight work even with Jim Rose on staff.

KWQC in the Quad Cities does more than most., old guard SD that is helped out with a really dedicated staff.

WJFW - Historically a great station for sports, not many will drive as far as they will/have to for a game.

WPSD – I used to run into those guys all over the place.

More are out there.

KTRK - Houston
Bob Allen, Tim Melton and Bob Slovak. They are pros and do a fantastic job covering local sports and there's a lot of it in Houston.

CH, in Houston, I'd give the nod to Fox.

Couple this comment with your earlier post on how The Horse shoe in North Myrtle Beach is one of your favorite places and it's confirmed....your opinion does not matter.

CH, I generally avoid the name-calling thing.

I just think the Fox guys in Houston break more stories and are more on top of things. But I have to admit that I don't catch their show as much as I used to.

The other choices in the market are pretty weak. I'll bet we can agree on that. Except for Matt Musil, if he's still there.

I usually avoid the name thing as well, but those are two words used, by photogs and reporters, to describe him. I've seen him in action, and believe me it fits. Not to say he's not good, he just annoys many people in the biz.

Matt Musil is still there, and he's one of the best. I think Tim Melton is very good as well.

WPDE-TV-15 in Myrtle Beach.

Rich Chrampanis and Mark Haggard cover local sports with a vengeance. When I worked there I was COMPLETELY impressed with their dedication and coverage!

WJXT in Jacksonville is tops there. Sam Kavouris (sp?) is the man!
