I still don't understand why NDs think this is the answer to their problems. Less local news in their newscasts? Yeah, that'll bring back viewers.

totally agree.

what revolutionary ideas do they have planned for those 3 minutes they've been giving sports at 29 after the hour?

and has there ever been a station that dropped sports, then zoomed to #1 in the ratings?

it didn't work in PHX (SAME ND) and it certainly will NOT work in a sports loving town like Cinci. I am a news guy but I just do not understand the thinking behind some of these idiots. Yeah, I said it. This is my old company, the one which lets branding get in the way of news. "that's not a story cause it doesn't fit within the brand" ugh...

BTW... that PHX station is mired in 4th, still.

While I wouldn't call Cincy a GREAT sports town (no NBA, no NHL) with mediocre MLB and NFL teams, as well as AVERAGE University of Cincy teams, I question the logic in dropping sports. It's not like it takes up A-block time.

Still, in a market that size there IS ample material to fill the sports block time.

Historically this hasn't worked elsewhere and I don't see it working in Cincy.

Can't argue with that, LOLOLOL...

Actually the person behind the reasoning to dump sports (it was to save money, in my opinion) in Phoenix got promoted to a GM job....

In Tulsa....;)

bwahahahaaha.

that makes a WHOLE lot of sense... You know he's no longer in the biz right? The GM who replaced him there is so much better. Plus he's a rock chalker!

Just because a city doesn't have a NHL, NBA, MLB, MLS, or NFL team doesn't mean it's not a great sports town. Cincy is plenty great with just the Reds and Bengals.

Plus, market size has nothing to do with anything... Billings Montana is market 171 and people would burn the CBS and NBC affiliate stations to the ground if they quit doing sports.

As far as Cincy, you're right, there's more than enough with just the Reds and Bengals alone to warrant sports coverage. Last I checked, the great ESPN, benchmark of consultants doesn't spend much time on Reds or Bengals... even when one gets arrested these days.

Cincy is great sports town cuz not only are Ohio sports relevant, but also devote coverage to UK sports cuz of all the Northern Kentucky viewers. It's market with lots of loyal/rabid fans.

Cincinnati sucks. I wish it would fall into the Ohio River and take Chad Johnson with it.
