Sure, if you're an "Internationally interested" person like me you might keep up on what's going on with Ingrid Betancourt lately:

...but where is the news media's give a cr*p factor about the three Americans who have been held hostage by a terrorist organzation for more than FIVE years now?!

Since you know what the real story is, why are you worried about media coverage?

What's the matter, that's not "sexy" enough of a story for you?

It's the Evil Liberal Media's way of attacking GW Bush.

There are three America troops missing in action in Iraq right now. And if Matt Maupin's remains hadn't just been found I'll bet they wouldn't haven't gotten one mention in the news this month. Why? because the media hates the troops? NO... because nothing about the story has changed.
I will grant you though that Richardson's visit deserves some coverage.

I don't think it has anything to do with the story not being sexy.
It's that nothing is new or has changed.
I do know they are STILL missing. But we usually don't report on stories if nothing is NEW.
It's a good story nonetheless...but doesn't have legs right now on a local level.

AF Wifey, this is America. Niaomi Campbell's bit at the airport is far more important.
How many people in the USA know what is being discussed at NATO? For that matter, how many realize that NATO is meeting this week?

And we have "enemy combatants" that haven't seen the light of day for just as long. In my book both situations are just as bad. if we treat people like this then we really can't complain when others treat us like this. Hard to take the moral high road when you lack morals.

I know the answer to both and I'm not even in news anymore.
Don't forget, everyone, Americans are fat, lazy, stupid, bastards. I don't know how they're managed to be the most powerful nation on Earth for so long. Must be their lack of renaissance painters.

Heh... i was thinking the same thing.
I am sure they don't EVER follow and feature the lives of Posh and Becks... or any of the Royal family... or Sir Paul. I am sure the news over there is ALL about NATO.

Pardon me for using your post to reiterate a point. This is aimed at buckpasser. On another thread, bucky was complaining that Bill O'Reilly purposefully stopped daily coverage on the war because BO wanted to "keep the truth hidden".
BO then explained he had cut the coverage because there was nothing new.
Sorry, CKMD, not tying anything to you here, but it's good to see bucky was once again full of it.
Excuse the hijack, nw back to the topic....

I think the difference between this story having nothing new and O'Reilly's comments about Iraq coverage is that it's his opinion that there is nothing new.
Why no outrage about O'Reilly's lack of covering all the good things happening there?

Why no outrage about O'Reilly's lack of covering all the good things happening there?Because again, that's nothing new. Right now, he seems to be focusing more on the presidential race, which I agree with. Where the war goes in the future will be a direct result of who becomes POTUS.

Can we broker a deal and trade in Wifeypoo for the 3 hostages? What if we throw in a case of Hamburger Helper?

Oh, look. Another predictably stupid thread from AH Wifey. It's funny to see this airhead make ignorant and moronic comments about how the story isn't being covered by "the news media" when it was on the NBC Nightly News last week (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/23846967#23846967).
Dumbass.

A photo of Ingrid Betancourt from the German site, der Spiegel. There's a story on the German version of the site, but not on the English.
She'd lost quite a bit of weight over 6 years. Can you imagine being held captive for 6 years?
