A few weeks ago I received a call on a Friday from a PD hours after my DVD hit their desk. We talked for about 45-minutes, they said "do research on the area." "What kind of package will it take to get you here", very positive signs.
I was told to send more material, and that "we'll talk when I get it." I sent it later that week, and followed up with a confirmation e-mail a week later. The good news: he responded immediately with " i go it."
The bad news: It's been two weeks since they received the new DVD, and no correspondence other than the confirmation e-mail.
Do I conisder it dead?
Follow up with another e-mail?
Follow up with a call?
Or do nothing?
Any help would be great. It's a great opportunity that I don't want mismanage. Thanks.
For reference, it's a regional cable gig. Not local news.

Two weeks is nothing. Continue sending out additional applications. Emailing again won't help necessarily...if they are considering you, they are considering you. I could envision a situation where it might hurt...if you are overzealous perhaps. You might be waiting two months or more, trust me. If you absolutely cannot wait, a simple inquiry by e-mail probably wouldn't hurt...especially if you have other irons in the fire.
Hate to say this, but I have heard the "Oh I think you would love the area!" and similar lines WAY too many times.
Had an EXTREMELY positive interview in Pittsburgh once that all but ended with the ND offering me the job (sounded very much like your experience). He had to talk to corporate and would get back to me on Monday (this was a Friday). Well, by Friday of the NEXT week, I decided to check in....left a voice mail after talking to his secretary who I had been friendly with when I was there for the interview (he was not available). Two weeks later after hearing nothing I called her again and she was shocked he hadn't gotten back to me. I left my final voice mail and had never heard back from him to this day.

If they want you, they will call you.
They always do.
If they don't call or write, they're just not that into you.
Move on.

Suggestion! Make sure your "My Space" page contains nothing that your grandma wouldn't approve of. Employers are "googling" potential hires .

Depends how badly you want the job... I've managed to pick my markets, landing a reporting job exactly where I wanted each time.
But before the job offer came in I reached a point where I thought "Am I coming across desperately?" My rationale was I'd rather not get the job, but feel that I had done all I could to land it ....rather than not get the job and think "what if I'd made one more call?"
NDs are busy. They get a lot of tapes. And have a lot to deal with other than hiring. Do what you can to cut through the clutter.

You received a call from a "PD?" You applied for a job at a police department?

Your joke will look mighty silly if it turns out to be a Production Director.

Wow. You caught a typo. Congratulations.

Fire Hydrogant, you're a prime example of humor gone bad. PD stands for Programming Director. If you read the bottom of my post, I said it's a regional cable network, not local news. Cable's version of News Directors, are Programming Directors.

sounds like to me you're one of a few people in the running... no more, no less.
I'd drop em an email once a week.
