...who should run the morning meeting? I say the producer. (I make sure I get to the meeting early to sit in her regular chair.) Sometime the assignment desk editor tries to run the meeting but I say it should be the producer. What does everyone think? Thanks in advance.

True, but you have to admit, some of the topics brought up ARE fairly interesting.

How about a reporter? Then for once you wouldn't have people getting yelled at at the end of the day for coming back with a story that was different than your preconceived notions.

Good bye and good riddance...er. .. Good night and good luck.

I think Vulcan should run the meeting when your ND is out.

The RNC should run your meeting, of course.

I'll actually answer this one. If the ND usually runs the morning meeting and isn't going to be there, then the ND should say who will run the meeting in his or her absence.

I had lunch with Vulcan on Monday and during the conversation I tried to convince him to become a ND... He just laughed at me...

In all seriousness...how long have you been in the business? You seem to want to know a lot about everything. Clean News vehicles, Pissing off the Sports Guy and Master Control folks, who's in charge when #1 is away.....Did I miss anything? Curiousity is a good thing but don't take it too far.

The Assistant ND or EP(that's Executive Producer) oversees all the Producers of the various shows and is in charge. Any questions about station heirachy should be discussed with the ND or GM. Defaulting yourself as being in charge or peeing in other people's pools are not good ways to endear yourself to the newsroom and other station employees.

In all seriousness, this guy getting his jollies everytime one of you morons responds to him. Just click on his name and put him on your ignore list.

I've had a long-standing challenge for a newsroom to invite interested "civilians" to sit in on the editorial meetings. One or two guests per morning. Get a large contingent, and let them rotate, where they are in about once a month. It would have the following effects:

No more stupid crap in the meetings. Everyone would be on best behavior.
No more stupid ideas being floated with no significance or community impact.
No more reporters showing up without bona fide lead story ideas. Egos won't allow for embarrassment.
Actual submissions and ideas from real people. Even if you get only two decent stories a month, it's more than you would have had.
Better news tips. Your "citizen editors" will likely call you on their non-meeting days with breaking news tips.I've floated this idea in the past, and no one has taken me up on it. Bring in your volunteers one night for a mass orientation, let them see how it's all put together, and turn them loose on the community to be extra eyes and ears.

That's the best I'll do for you, because I don't want to run a newsroom.

It was a pleasure. Glad we got the chance.

Sure maybe he's a troll, maybe not.Time will tell. I've known lots of newbies that have lots of questions. We've all asked dumb, curious questions when we started out. We just asked the people around us. With experience comes knowledge. His questions are somewhat immature but not offensive. That's to be expected with someone who knows a lot about nothing. Troll or not there's nothing wrong with answering a legitimate question no matter how silly it may seem with years of experience under your belt.

I don't like wasting my time.
And anyone with an ounce of sense can see the pattern of a prankster.
We were helpful the first time.
It was funny the second time.
It was getting old the third time
Now it is like the boy who cries wolf.
Only the idiots run up the hill to help.

I've notice a great improvment in the ratings when we let the janitor run the morning meetings... I love the metered overnights.

"Johnny, what can you make outta this?" "This? Why I could make a hat, or a brooch, a pterodactyl. . ."

Our ND never attends morning meetings. That's why he hired an assistant ND. If we have a really tough question....we can reach him at the golf course by cell phone. Or if you need to show him something, check the bar down the street or call his girlfriend. But never call his house, his wife might answer.
