I have always admired Bill's talent, style and grace and told him so in an e-mail shortly after he'd been unceremoniously demoted from the noon anchor position by WCCO in 2002. I spoke of how unfairly I thought he'd been treated and how the new news director had absolutely no idea of what a popular and beloved figure he was to so many.
Bill wrote back to thank me for my kind comments and then, as you might expect, said he'd had a wonderful run on the Noon show and wished his replacement well.
Of course, after an outcry from viewers, it didn't take long for the station to realize the error of its ways and bring Bill back where he belonged.

I never worked with Bill, however, whenever I visited family in Minneapolis, I watched his newscasts. A solid anchor. Sad to read of his passing.

I recognized 13 out of the 16 people in that pic and I've only been back in the Twins for a year after a 25 year absence prior to that.
BTW - Bill Carlson,, we'll ALL miss you!
