was asked this by an on-air friend and honestly didn't know the answer...

friend is job-seeking..... his current station (which won't be renewing him when deal expires in a few months) and his previous station both have stories and shows archived on their websites that he's reported and/or anchored.

would he be wrong to give the URLs to prospective employers (a direct link to his stuff, not just the generic station web address), rather than sending an old-fashioned tape?

(personally I'd be OK with it but I'm not a boss... so bosses, what do you think?
and why or why not?)

Send the NDs a link, then tell them a tape is on its way. I've done this, it works, they don't mind.

I would do both. The links are good because there will be more of a variety of stories that you might not put on your tape. It will give future bosses a better look at your day to day product.

As long as he's prepared for the potential employer to look at ALL of his work on the website. Once the ND follows the link he or she might want to click around and see what the work is like that's NOT on the resume.
