Markets 20 through 39 vary widely in salary. Giving a range of salaries for them could result in "oh, about $27,000 to $85,000," in other words, not very helpful.

I was simply looking for people who have been in any of these markets and are willing to share with the class...

Or..... who know of someone who has worked in any of these markets and would be willing to share their known salary.

I get the "range"... that's easy enough the find with a quick Google search....

I'm looking for those of you with actual numbers.... not estimates.

Cheers!

But the actual number WILL be a range, that's the point! One market may have stations that pay within 10K of one another, while another market...maybe even just one tic up in market size, may pay 10-30K more...or 10-30K less due to market differences. Especially, those hyphenated markets will pay less than an equal-size, single-city market.

Then you'll get a response from someone who has been in the market for a long time making a lot more than a newbie into the market could ever hope to get.

SO...the 27K-85K 'guess' I would hold is extremely accurate and about as good as you are going to get.

Unless you just want people to randomly post their salaries which still won't help you based on all of the factors listed above that makes one salary different from another.

Okay.... how can "an actual number be a range?"

I'm not trying to be a pain in the *arse* here.... but for the love.

Yes.... I am looking for specifics..... in the case of....

Where ya at?
Whatcha' make?

However.... I don't care about the circumstances... whether you're a rookie or a veteran. I don't care if you're at the number 1 or number 4 station. I'll come up with "the range" on my own.

This is just for anyone who feels like sharing.... Sure, people aren't that willing to drop their income in a public forum like this.... but how am I going to find that out unless I ask?

OK, here's a range based on my personal knowledge.

Market 22. Pittsburgh.

There's an anchor working at one station making $500K. There's another anchor at another station in the same time slot making $80K.

There's a radio talent making $240K at one station. At the big all-news radio station, however, seasoned reporter/anchors are only making AFTRA scale (60K-ish).

AFTRA scale at the "big" TV station is in the 80K range (on air). IBEW cameramen and technicians can easily make into the six figures. Non-union writers and producers, of course, are the big losers here. Associate producers are paid in the 20Ks ... full producers around 40K ... EPs around 60K.

And that's at the "big" station. The picture isn't quite as pretty at the other two network affiliates.

Market 39...$26,000 1988 Dayside, Reporter / Bureau Chief
Market 99...$11,000 1983 Nightside Reporter/Weekend Fill-in
Market 65...$200/week 1982 On-air Reporter Intern
Market 155...$35,000 plus OT 2006 Reporter/Morning Fill-in

PR Add 'em ALL up and it's still less than I make now.

Okay here's a specific example or two... I know a reporter working in a high 20s to low 30s market. He has 8 years of experience and is at the #2 station making about $44,000/year. Another reporter in that same shop has 2 years experience and she makes $25,000/year. Talk about range.
