Sad story. I wonder what got to him. I'll never understand suicide from someone that has young kids.

Bob Ryan is one of the "good guys".
In a business where any large-market columnist is subject to be thrown onto ESPN and told to scream with others in a "four-box", Bob Ryan actually has substance and is seen, throughout the business, as a genuinely nice person to deal with.
I hope that he is able to find comfort with the hundreds (thousands?) of fellow journalists that he has befriended over the years -- writers and broadcasters many, many levels below him, including this one -- that he actually took the time to talk to and be friendly with.
