Yeah, I got a call from a consultant yesterday wanting to know if I was interested in a chief job in Kansas. I'm curious too...

I was told (by them) that the set was built for their 6'4" chief.

Hope the new guy isn't short.

I also wonder what happened? I got an offer from them 3 month ago for their weekend spot. I wonder if I missed the oportunity for a quick promotion...either way, NO regrets.

I noticed the former morning guy from 49 in Topeka moved down there.

Hmmm... I did not hear anything, but I wish Jay the best.

Word I heard is it's a way of getting Jay to settle down a little bit... money wise, that is.
He's asking for a lot in salary and this is KAKE's way of saying "we don't need ya if you want that much!".

Here's to hoping for the best..........

I've heard Prater can be more than difficult to work with.

Might be the chief position at KSNT in Topeka. Two Kansas chiefs up for grabs (unless the 'playing hardball' approach by KAKE is true!)

He can be demanding of the people he works with... because he expects the best from you. Sometimes that means pushing people a bit. For those that can be lazy at times.. that may come off as being difficult.

But I would not say he was difficult to work with at all. I would say the time I worked with him was one of the best times I have ever had in this business. I know for a fact that he made me a better forecaster and broadcaster all around. I am sure there are many others that would say the same. (I am sure there are many that will disagree with me as well. )

This post has peaked my interest and a long over due email is on its way.

If this Gray station is anything like the one I worked at I can totally believe this. They take a very hard line on pay raises and contract negotiations. They'd rather hire someone else than give you anything more than 3%.

What's a "Managing Meteorologist"? First time I've ever heard of that title.

Sadly... that's pretty much becoming the norm at a LOT of stations/companies.

Charts - A "Managing Met", at least in this case, is a Chief Met w/ a little more power than usual, like having a def say in who is and who is not hired on the wx team.

Jay's a pretty a valuable tool at KAKE... they'd be silly to let him go.

Good Luck, Jay.

I've always thought kicking Pringle down to AMs was a stupid & crappy move on KAKE's part. While Prader might be a nice guy and knowledgeable, KAKE now has a three minute stretch in their newscast where on-air presence and personality lags. I've heard more enthusiasm in flight briefings.

This is not the case at all Gray stations.
You may need coaching in negotiation.

Put 3% in front of me and the discussion is over.
I don't care if it's Gray or Google.

Noticed I used past tense when referring to the station. So obviously the discussion is over. But I'll be sure and contact you the next time I negotiate my salary.

excellent work.
if you are looking for an agent... i am willing to give it a whirl. i will could get them up to 11%... then take 8%. which pretty much wouldn't help. ok... i give up.

Make it 12% and you got a deal ;)

Ok, maybe not ALL Gray stations. But certainly most of them.

Edit: Of course, Christian Doppler, you've had a slightly better experience at a certain Gray station than I did. ;)

Exactly.
