OK, so we'll send a crew to South Beach to show cold people trying to keep warm, sipping hot chocolate and bundled up, we'll take a live picture of the bank thermometer showing it's already 50° and DROPPING, then we'll kick off our team smotherage with the weather center TRACKING the cold temperatures! Been there, done that.

Mock all you want, but heaters, insulation, and other cold weather prevention efforts are not part of the building code in SFLA.

Plus, think of all the thin skinned blue hairs who will have to endure this cold snap with nothing more than Bermuda shorts, dark socks, and forever blinking turn signals to keep themselves warm.

Same thing happens in Phoenix whenever it RAINS. The Fox affiliate is the biggest culprit of this "smotherage" (very nice - I love that by the way) by literally throwing the entire news team at every monsoon storm as if it was the Second Coming. They are followed closely in the cheese department by the local CNN affil KTVK who makes a regular habit of taking the otherwise competent and talented Mike Watkiss and making him and a photog play in the rain all day without an umbrella. To his credit though, I've never heard Mike refer to the rain as "the wet stuff". Maybe there's still hope for this market after all.

Reporting live from a 2 inch puddle in the station parking lot, I'm News is Broken. Back to you.

The way the national media is covering this you would the world is coming to an end. This happens every winter at some point. State of emergency in this state? Give me a break. Put on a damn coat. The MOS and NWS forecasts are too cold for most sites in Florida. The lower teens being forecast by TBW for parts of their area are borderline irresponsible. We had a hard freeze warning up (in Tallahassee) for Wednesday morning. The low ended up being 33 degrees with a gusty northwest wind. All 3 hard freeze warnings issued by TAE this season did not verify. It should verify tonight, but 19 degrees isn't happening. (FYI - A Hard Freeze Warning is defined as having temperatures at or below 25 degrees for at least 2 consecutive hours).

There's my 2 cents.
