How is Bryant Gumbel still the NFL Network's lead play by play announcer? He was terrible last year. I thought he might get better, but that's not the case. He constantly gets players names wrong. At the end of the Cowboys/Packers game he referred to Tony Romo as Rick Romo. I mean come on.

Agreed. I so enjoyed the game Tom Hammond called for the NFL Net. If they HAD to have a Gumbel, they should have gotten Greg.

If the NFL Network fires him, Al Sharpton'll demand an apology.

Did anyone notive last night they changed to a three man team? I believe that was the first time this year where they had Marshall and Deion in booth as well. It was better, but yes Gumbel is TERRIBLE!

While he's pretty good on "Real Sports", Gumbel is an absolute train wreck calling games on NFL Network. I can't believe that the powers that be are satisfied and why on earth he's allowed to continue is beyond me.
Luckily Collinsworth adds some stability to the booth when he does color. Tonight's DAL-CAR game wasn't too bad, but last Thursday's PIT-STL game was a complete joke. Add Deion and Marshall to the mix last Thursday and it's deplorable at best. Here's an example to back it up:
Following a reviewed play, STL got a clear false start penalty before the snap. ANYONE watching the action could see the movement up front. What did Gumbel say? "Oh there's a delay of game on STL, how on earth do you do that after a timeout." I'm sitting there shouting at the TV like an idiot myself. To add insult to injury, Deion agrees with him and goes on and on about the "delay of game". What a dumba#&!!! The funniest part of it was the director of the game showed an iso of the lineman who was called for the false start and put his stats up as if to say, "It's right there for you moron". I'm sorry to be a Gumbel hater, but surely there is someone else out there as qualified to call these games that has some clue what they are looking at!

The Saturday night game was an improvement. There was significantly less gazing into Collinsworth's eyes.

Agreed, I think. They could have dropped the "meaningless" angle earlier, but overall I thought the team did a pretty good job.
They mix the crowd noise up considerably, which I kind of liked. Unless that was just my brother's system doin' the talking.

I found myself hitting mute quite often last night. Great game, but he just gets on my nerves.

I thought Gumbel was much better in the Pats/Giants game. He showed excitement when appropriate and seemed to be "in the game." Maybe I'm just getting used to him. I'd still take 3.5 hours of Gumbel doing play by play than one halftime of highlights by Shannon Sharpe.

I didn't like Bryant during the Pats/Giants game. I can't stand his voice...or the way he does PBP.
