Just a reminder - this new forum gives you the opportunity to upload pictures to use in your posts. "Hotlinking" to a site you do NOT own can be dangerous, as some site owners will instead exchange that really cool pic with something gross and unappetizing.

If you are using a photo-sharing service, like photobucket or flickr, you're going to be okay.

If you have any doubts, then do the following:

Right-click on the picture you want to use.
Save it to a place on your machine where you can find it.
Click on "Manage Attachments"
http://openline.medialine.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=74&stc=1&d=1196811180
Click on "Browse" to find it again.
http://openline.medialine.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=73&stc=1&d=1196811180
Upload it.
http://openline.medialine.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=75&stc=1&d=1196811180
Then, at the bottom of your "Additional Options", you'll see your attachment list. Right click on the file name, and get the URL for the pic you want to insert.
http://openline.medialine.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=76&stc=1&d=1196811447

Click on the little picture icon, and paste in that URL
http://openline.medialine.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=77&stc=1&d=1196811570

Hit ENTER.
Enjoy. If your picture is too big, then resize it before you upload it. You can always make your picture a link back to the original site, and that won't hack off the site owner. Just click on the actual embedded picture in your post, then click on the "link" icon. Then fill in the url of the original picture.

Vulcan has spoken. Happy posting.

This forum allows us to link pictures? Cool!!!

So you have to save the pic to your computer first?
I tried right clicking to 'properties' like before, then pasting that address into the url line in the 'manage attachments' screen. All I got was 'invalid attachment.'

What if you would actually prefer something gross and unappetizing??

So, idiot that I am, I managed to get a few pics uploaded.
I'll wait till the applause dies down.
Now - how do I do it without the "attached thumbnail" box coming up with it? Isn't there a simple way like on the old forum where you just right click the pic to properties, then insert that address into an "image" box?

Hi,

Attaching an image lets you use our server's storage. What you are referring to is possible too, where you have the URL for an image, and you just want to insert it.

1 - make sure you're using the full editor, by going to your control panel / user options at the very bottom. http://openline.medialine.com/profile.php?do=editoptions

2 - When composing a message, click the icon that looks like this to insert an image where the cursor is: http://openline.medialine.com/images/kirsch/editor/insertimage.gif

Hope that helps!

I only get thumbnails. When I save a pic to my machine, one that I've created or uploaded from somewhere else, I don't have a URL to insert! I'm not hotlinking anything, I'm uploading from my computer. Hence, all I get are thumbnails. Pout. How do I change that?

QUESTION - can you go in to your ADMIN panel and activate the IMGWRAP function so that we can get images to wrap beside the text??

I did a quick Google on how to write the BBCode for image wrap - and it seems they all say the admin has to activate the feature - OR - write a few lines of code to allow for image wrap.

Thanks!

Let's be glad the porn links are finally gone!

I think the number of images allowed per post should be unlimited. There's a "five" limit but it won't let you post more than four. It would make the next News Is Broken Christmas in March Gift-Giving Spectacular (http://openline.medialine.com/showthread.php?t=30536&highlight=spectacular) that much easier.

Nope, only random quotes and retail advertisements are allowed.

but it would use more of the available bandwidth (if medialine were hosting the images)...Why not just put the "signature image" of your choice as your avatar?

It's actually a cheat to get Twitter posted in my Signature. You can use a generator to convert your Tweets into an image - then you can have the Tweet RSS show up on BBC forums.

Like this one:

But I'd probably go with a better graphic.
